I can relate to your feelings. It's crucial to take some time to process and plan your next steps. Have you considered taking a brief week off just to decompress and catch your breath?
I recall an instance where I embarked on a solo road trip with no set destination or bookings. At first, it was overwhelming, and I was in disarray. But by the middle of the week, I regained my focus. I rediscovered my needs and wants.
There was a comical yet profound realization that sleeping in a car at a truck stop in rural Mississippi wasn't the best choice, especially when I discovered a cluster of hotels just 10 miles away - a plan ahead would have made things much smoother.
Moreover, listening to Delilah, without a specific destination, while shedding tears, helped me realize that my life's struggles were not as severe as those of others out there.
You too will figure out this out.
Yes. Very familiar. I ended up getting sick (not related but in hindsight it could have been 🤷♀️) and having surgery, went right back to work, then took a medical leave of absence as upon returning it became so severe I had to take medication to function. Only to come back and be “terminated” within 2 months.
The best advice is to get out, and as quickly as possible. If you have the means to take a break please do so, nothing is worth that kind of stress/sickness. I’m still recovering and will never let myself get in a situation like that again. Best of luck to you!!
I really appreciate it, thank you so much for taking the time to share, and I’m so sorry you had to go through that
May I suggest a leave of absence? You can take one for mental health under FMLA. While your symptoms are common, they are not normal, and you need help. I say this as someone who was in your exact shoes. I tried vacations, I tried meditation, I did everything you can imagine, and nothing helped but a leave of absence. A break away from the crazy and therapy will go a long way.
Yep! Please do.
Yes. I am in the same situation. Currently on FMLA and looking for other roles. However, I fear that once I am back from FMLA leave, they will fire me.
It’s illegal for them to fire you after FMLA. A labor attorney can easily show that it was retaliation or a discriminatory response to your leave - even if they claim it’s for unrelated causes and part of your at-will employment.
My FMLA is currently approved for full 12 weeks. That’s the maximum someone can go on FMLA. I don’t think it can be extended. I can go on an STD leave but it’s not job protected. Also, I just read your post again. I see that you asked for suggestion. My suggestion is the same as other replies. You should try for FMLA and look for other jobs. If you don’t want to do that, you can also try to change teams internally. I ended up in hospital. I don’t want anyone else to go through the same.
