Unless you’re a day trader on Wall Street (and even then) the only things in your portfolio if you’re young should be index funds and cash. Keep a little extra emergency fund in cash since times are uncertain now but DCA the rest over a few months. No one knows if this will bottom out next week, next month, next year, or next decade.

like

D1 is right. It’s the easiest route and consistently offers the highest reward per risk.

Hold it as cash. A major recession or even depression is around the corner. You could invest a small percentage of it, but I know I would sleep better having an extra 15-20k in cash now.

like

Agreed having extra cash right now is smart. I do have an emergency fund and thankfully do not pay rent so I wanted be smart with the money I’m saving by not spending on rent

I am a beginner but am considering putting part into an etf (s&p500) and part in stocks I research.

I’m young and willing to leave $ in for the long term. Is it better to wait? Will the stock market drop more?

If you’re truly willing to wait and not dipping into what should be an emergency fund, then yeah, stocks are on sale.

I would recommend that you dollar cost average. In essence, buy over dips over time. For example I would buy some now, but save some to buy later if another big drop is coming. Which it very well might.

Start putting 10% of your money everyday in S&P500 and spread it to 10 business days.

Ryan had his partner call last week. If things don't change in six months, layoffs will begin. It would be much better to ask people to take a pay cut, or a few weeks off without pay. Some people may be willing to take a package as well. Don't expect it will be the sweet package you are offering to partners to retire early.

I got offer from KGS. It has a flexible compensation in the salary. I understand these are allowances for getting tax benefits. There are allowances like "Expenses made against education", "Mobile/landline bill reimbursement", "Purchase of computer at home". I am confused if these will be paid as part of salary directly or I need to provide bills to get these allowances? If I don't provide any value for these allowances while structuring my salary, can I adjust the amount to some other allowance

I had submitted my resignation a few days ago. It’s been an emotional few days sharing the news with the different teams that I work with. Everyone seems upset and I feel like I’m leaving my family, but the other job has better benefits/pay.

Has anyone else had this feeling? Leaving a company/people that you’re so close with for the unknown at a new position? Not sure if the feeling of guilt/emotions will pass once I officially leave.

Mid to Senior Software Developer needs advice…

Please read the post and comment below as well. As the title says, I’m a mid to senior. I have been writing apps for about 5 years in various languages and have working with many other tools/frameworks on a non-consistent basis. A .NET/ES5/TS guy who understands DB/design, monolith arc. (made one), IoC, and basic design/programming principles. I understand microservice architecture but have never designed an app in it for work.

Question is will I be paid if I'm put on a bench?
