Hello,

I am an incoming LLM student (international) in UIUC. Because of funding issues I had to choose despite having offers from Columbia University, Georgetown University, Umich, Boston College. Now how can I use this 9 months that I secure a job? What courses should I take? I am leaning toward International business transaction related courses. Please suggest.

Go to Columbia, Umich or Georgetown. You’ll struggle to get employment with UIUC in this market

I did my LLM at Georgetown and really struggled to find a job.

I'd probably take courses that cover topics such as international trade law, cross-border transactions, international contracts, and dispute resolution. not sure what your school offers

You should try Northwestern. They give some good scholarships. Agreed on the market. In this year Columbia graduating LLM class many students didn’t land a spot.

Focus on corporate/transactional vs litigation. Do you have professional experience back in your country? Taking a specific class won't help you as much as your work experiences will.

I have 5 years experience in M&A and projects.

I have also recently finished my Masters in HR Management, so I wanted to jump on here and see if anyone has any tips for landing a new role?

Considering switching careers:

I got hired straight out from college 5 years ago from a small CPA firm and have worked in Tax ever since. Lately, I feel like this is not what I'm actually into. What else I can do with my Accounting degree?

My passion is Real Estate and Interior Design, love Managerial Accounting, I can sit for hours analyzing data, I also have a degree in Supply Chain Management.

My passion cannot feed my family but I've been burned out so much after years in Tax. 😞

Working on a deal where buyer's side keeps on insisting on a POA to effectuate all actions of Seller under the agreement, including executing documents. I understand a CofC is triggered in an equity deal, but is that also triggered in an asset deal (along with assignment, obviously)?

I have an asset purchase of a retail store transaction. Seller is keeping the second location. Seller is licensing the name from the buyer. Junior associate here, should I ask for more money if my firm is about 10-15 percent less hours but about 30 percent less pay? The gap will never be closed to the top pay scale at my firm but when I decided to come to this firm the pay difference was about 15 percent and not 30. Would appreciate any thoughts on how to go about bringing this up without pissing people off because I love the firm and do not want to leave

Rising 2nd year here: been rethinking my choice as an M&A attorney. I've had a rough go of it over the first year-and-a-half of practice and am thinking about moving to a different practice area. I'd like to stay on the transactional side, but am not quite sure what areas I can leverage my corporate and M&A skills in. I was thinking T&E (i.e. business succession planning, etc.)

Would greatly appreciate input from others.

So I had 3 deals scheduled to either close end of May or mid June which were all pushed to end of June/beginning of July. Which is when I have my first vacation planned for over a year (I take 0 time off). My whole family is flying up and we’re renting a cabin near me. What do I do? I’m running one of the deals, semi running the other one and not doing much leading on the other one. Note: I was supposed to not be running any of these. Do I find a back up first or tell the partners first?
