Hi all, I have 12 yrs of experience in HR industry roles and consulting and have mainly been with telecom industry ( currently have a role in pharma). I want to work with the likes of Google, Amazon, Facebook etc. I really think I have strong HR experience to get into these companies and I keep applying but nothing happens.Does anyone know how exactly their CV screening process works? If I land atleast a call with the recruiter, I think I have a good shot at converting. How do I get my foot in the door? Tks

Amazon is understaffed. So if you apply, you will most probably get a screening call. I couldn't recommend working for them, though. It's a crazy cutthroat treadmill with not so new HR tech. However, they are the easiest to get into, and after a year with Amazon you can get into any FAANG. Facebook has many openings, it’s easier to get a screening call via referral in there. For Google and Apple you need to adjust your CV to make sure that it fits the JD. And Netflix mostly hire from entertainment lately, it’s hard to get in

I can say with certainty that having someone refer you for a position at Amazon is very helpful. After I was referred, I was contacted within 24 hours, and had a phone screen within 48.

At the risk of someone at FB retaliating — I literally don’t understand why anyone deals with Facebook. It’s so not necessary to the world. Corporately, or as a user. People act like you have to be on Facebook. You don’t! It’s an ad platform! Sorry, this is off topic. I just don’t get it.

I was a client referral at two of those listed and a family referral at the 3rd. I honestly believe the only reason I had immediate traction was due to referral status.

Which one to choose between Optum and Tiger Analytics for Data Scientist position? I’ve noticed on Glassdoor, salaries for my level (Director) are higher than my base but have similar bonus opportunity. At what level of pay gap would you push or make a stink? Moved to Canada on a work permit but recently got my PR approved. It’s been a 4 month wait to get the actual PR card and I have a family trip coming up soon. Can I still travel and get back into the country with no issues given that I still have a work visa (W1) on my passport? Not sure if my change of status nulls my current visa

Is there any realistic way where tipping in the US goes away and we start to be like other countries (e.g. Europe/Asia)? Raise the price of the food, pay servers a fair wage, no tips? Just a dream 😅

I'm guessing no because businesses will fight hard against this (customers subsidize wages) and certain servers benefit from tipping as well.

Only other thing I can think of is if everyone collectively decides not to ever tip again and it forces business to change. Won't happen though.

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. So someone I know asked HR about a boot policy. When he found out that there wasn’t one, but his boss said there was (who gave the guys $ for boots and the claimed it on his expense reimbursements as something else) the boss got mad at him for askingHR (and in trouble for the expense reimbursements) and then 2 days later laid off my friend. Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)
