Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Every case is going to be a little different but if you suspect it you should get everything you need off your machine asap and anticipate that as soon as the video conference happens, your computer and phone will be bricked.
Make sure you remove any, uh, personal stuff from both too. IT dept will have full access once they get your machine.

Asked to keep your laptop. A lot of agencies are going along with this and it makes your life much easier. Also that way you won’t have to get all of your messages texts and emails bitching about your creative director off of it first
If you’ve been using your work phone as your only number, might want to see if you can at least keep the number too. Better than losing your contacts (oh, back those up too BTW) and then having to let people know where to reach you.
My agency is mailing me my personal items from my desk via 3 day FedEx and sent a FedEx box for me to return my computer. They offered to come pick it up.
I am asking to keep my computer a bit longer or even purchase it. We will see.

You have nothing to apologize for, don’t feel bad! Carry on, and ask away. Lots of people may have been wondering about the same questions you had, and the responses you received had good info. These are tough, confusing times for everyone! 🙂
