Schedule send all the way. It’s the most considerate option.
“Don’t feel required to respond” means they have to have read the email to see that line, which means you’ve triggered work thinking after hours.
You can also note in the email that you’re schedule sending, or talk to your most frequently emailed colleagues about how you often use that feature if you want them to know why they’re getting a series.
For client facing emails, I like to avoid setting the expectation that they can email me after hours. I intentionally schedule for a few minutes off the hour so it’s less obvious it’s scheduled.
I think you’ve got it spot on, to be honest. Clear communication with the team about how you work + scheduled send.
If your team works flexibly too, it might be worth checking what hours they normally put in so you could send it in their “working hours” even if it’s outside “office hours”.
That signature line would be beneficial, in my opinion! I get emails at 5AM and always feel like I need to respond 😅 I tend to dislike schedule send because some of my coworkers check out their emails to gauge work load the night before to decide if they want to work from home or not the next day
For me, it would really depend on the nature of what I am sending. Unless it's something super urgent...I just wait till the next day to send it. That way if my team has questions/need clarity, they can ask me in real time. I do find myself writing many of my emails outside of working hours though. I am able to think clearer and words just flow better vs during a busy day.
For me, communicating that you don’t expect emails to be responded to after hours goes a long way to take the pressure off.
Ideally, it should be part of a greater conversation with your immediate team regarding WLB decisions, which allows each member to have a greater sense of agency over their own workday.
I find sending timed message is good when you are sending to someone that you believe would exploit your Sunday email. I also do it when I know the person well enough to know when they could be the most receptive
