How do you deal with rejection sensitivity and thinking people hate you? I've been struggling desperately with my adhd for years and have a laundry list of getting fired, or laid off, or taken advantage of by shifty and less than law abiding business owners, that have left me with little confidence in my own ability.

I can't help but think my past colleagues and friends, secretly hate me or think I'm useless, every message left on read cuts to the core, leaving me ruminating on my failures.

It’s hard and I completely get it because often times I feel the same way. Like my co workers are so good at what they do and well spoken. But comparison is the thief of joy. They hired you in the roll for a reason. Just do your best job and until someone says anything don’t assume. Maybe you’re left on read because they are busy or don’t know how to respond. And if it’s this specific company, it’s time to start looking. You don’t want a toxic work environment affecting your mental health.

You have to build your self esteem. Are you good at your work? Are you a good human being?

Then, that’s all that matters.

I recommend listening to motivational content.

At any job, try to find one or two allies, be cordial, but don’t try to win everyone over; that’s not possible.

I actually had to sign up for talk therapy because of this. Originally, I used talkspace. Because that was one of the first virtual app in the space. Now there are dozens of them.

It took a lot to get me to sign up. Because what if…

It did help me to get my self esteem foundation back.

If signing up for talk therapy is too much for your wallet right now. Another possible tool would be to use Pinterest. Look at mental health or rejection sensitivity. A lot of therapists and mentors are posting tools there.

Journaling can help too.

Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. I came along and thought I could deal with it but she literally makes me want to not log on tomorrow.

I booked a mat leave coverage that was supposed to run from June-Aug. I got 2 weeks in and resourcing called to say they found an internal resource to cover and they were cancelling my contract immediately. It sucked, but I get it. Obviously cheaper to use internal resources. Anything I can do to to protect myself a bit next time? Is it unheard of to write in some type of severance fee clause? Appreciate any help

I made a couple errors at a new job. An important document to be distributed had wrong information on it, which was proofread by 2 other people. Then a couple of typos in emails, the person micromanaging me told me to send out but I didn’t fix the errors. Failed to meet a deadline but completed 95%. I was written up over all this last week, fired this week. There’s a lot more to this but I think it’s because the DM doesn’t like me.

Got laid off in tech corp dev making 250-300 all in. Have an offer to join a fairly new family office investment team in PE buyouts but will be a fairly significant cash pay cut vs what I was making in tech corp dev. I’ve always been interested in doing investing. All things being equal, is there better upside to take the fam office to do PE (at a pay cut for now), or go do another corp dev job? 6-7 YOE

At this point in the game it doesn't make a difference where you at everybody is getting laid off at one point or another the only thing I say is try to repair yourself for it if it happens to you

Just here to say I’m so thankful we have this safe space. People who aren’t diagnosed generally have misconceptions about ADHD and its symptoms, and I’m so grateful we have this bowl to seek help, learn from one another, and sometimes just vent! I work in sales as a coordinator and do a bunch of paperwork with customers online. I LOVE PEOPLE but dread going to work everyday (wfh 3x a week) because the environment is toxic. I just found out that the only positive manager on my team is leaving. I am spiraling. I have a BS in Health Science (no chemistry classes taken and minimal biology education). Hey so like - newfound reason for my procrastination since I got on Ritalin - a tendency towards "putting things off so I can enjoy the hyperfocus later". It’s looking like my job is gonna start asking us to return to the office. We have an open office plan and before we wfh FT I would save all my work for my telework days bc I can’t get shit done in the office. I’m having major anxiety about them making this decision. I know I’m not alone that people don’t want to return to the office. My ADHD and the open office just makes working from the office a nightmare and I’m feeling really nervous and kind of resentful.

I know I can simple google search and ask my doctor but want to hear other peoples thoughts…I love drinking my coffee to wake me up in the morning but I’m afraid it’s making my meds less bc of its acidic nature 😵
