How do you ever switch off as a mid-level when you inevitably get emails “I know you’re out of office, but…”? I have not been able to take any time off (including any single weekend) in over a year and I am so done.

Not a single weekend in over a year? You're being exploited by your firm and should lateral asap.

Also, just don't respond.

like

They are writing you bc you are the one who will respond on a dime. Stop being the one to respond at all times and you will stop being the one they reach out to at such times. But you won’t be fired. Set your boundaries.

like

They’re emailing you because you’re responding while you’re OOO. When I’m out, I make it clear that responses to emails will be delayed. I respond maybe once a day. If you let people take advantage of you, they will

Go off the grid, literally. Take a 13 day Grand Canyon raft trip, or rent a bike and ride around Sicily. Do that a couple of times and people will get used to you being really gone. They will also envy you.

Whoever manages the group sucks as a manager. No one is indispensable. Not the partners. Not the associates. No one. And if they suck at managing this easy situation they very likely suck at managing more complex issues. I would find another firm. You are 100% justified in feeling imposed on and I’m sorry you’re in this situation.

Does anyone work for Children’s medical center of Dallas on this form ? I received a verbal offer for a VP position at CCB line of business at JPMC in NYC two weeks ago. The recruiter asked for salary expectations but there was no number set. It’s been two weeks since and complete radio silence. I sent an email to a hiring manager a week ago but received no reply. It’s August so people could be on vacation but this is really strange. Has anyone had similar experience?

How does one tell their boss (owner of the company) that you are burnt out? The sheer volume of work is exhausting and I haven’t taken a true vacation as we are a small company so if something urgent comes to my email I feel like I must respond. I was given an additional title and more responsibilities last year as well but only a 3% raise for it.
