L6. Depends on whether you have relevant prior experience. Might need to start as program manager and then transition into product.
Can someone explain the difference between program and product roles?
It’s becoming a lot harder if you don’t have product experience. The market is competitive and they’ve realised that generalist consultants lacking digital and product understanding add little value for the type of work and that it takes 6 months minimum to train someone to run themselves - which is difficult in a role that’s usually super independent/standalone.
Try and find work inside your firm where you can build product skills to make you more attractive. There’s definitely projects at Accenture which allow that just gotta get on them!
Consider joining a start up in product first and then transitioning over
Potentially consider a role as a program manager first - though depending on which FAANG it can be difficult to make the internal transfer in a year or two.
(Saying this as someone worked as a PO in Amazon and now working as a PO in McK with plans to boomerang back to FAANG)
Thanks for all the advice! I will definitely think about these points
Consultant/Senior Consultant at Accenture (or Deloitte, equivalents) is often a move into an L5 Product Manager II role at Amazon.
‘Manager’ at Deloitte etc would be an L6 move.
Hope this helps
That’s perfect, I am at a consultant level

Another clarifying factor is the definition of product management. Do you want to be building/defining/managing external-facing tech products that generate revenue? Do not expect to get these technical PM opportunities out of the gate. Non-tech PM for internal products is a good starting point to grow (closer to PgM)

Pretty difficult if you lack the experience
