I recently started GC with EY law. I haven’t seen any case process since late august and there are a few items past due. The lawyers are not responding to my emails, does anyone know how to get a better sense of case progress and possibly to get the lawyers to speed up the process? Thanks! EY

Just to do a little myth busting here… if you believe that promotions are time or tenure-bound, you’ll spend more time in your career waiting than progressing.
Always start doing the next job no matter your level. So identify the gap between you as an AE and you as an AS. Get the AS job description and start performing there with examples to point back to. Promotions go two ways, your manager promotes you and you promote yourself.
On average I'd say:
AAE: 1 - 1.5 years
AE: 1 - 1.5 years
SAE: 1 year
AS: 2 - 3 years

AD has a ton of varience from agency to agency depending on what's next. Sometimes you add the VP title next, sometimes you go to Group Account Director – smaller agencies may even bump you to head of department after the AD level. I've seen it all over the place.
So much of it depends on how good you are and being in the right place at the right time (someone above you leaving and putting you in a place to get promoted). I’d say you should be expecting about 1.5-2 years as an AE if the next step up is AS, and if you’re not confident that will happen when the 2 year mark comes up then start looking.
My agency doesn’t have that role
Titles/levels and how long you can expect to spend at each level vary drastically from company to company. Half of getting promoted is figuring out the skills you need to step into the next role, the other half is confidently showing you’ve mastered those skills. (But don’t forget that the doors have to be open. You can’t be promoted if there’s not a space for you, and that’s when you need to decide if you’re ok to wait or if you want to pursue opportunities elsewhere.)

AAE = assistant account executive
AE = account executive
SAE = senior account executive
AS = account supervisor
AD = account director
Keep in mind, sometimes after AS, there is a Management Supervisor role before Account Director
Seconding what AM 1 said above… the doors need to be open and you will at times need to to decide if you want to wait for them to be. At my agency people can be in AM and AS roles for 3-4 (or more years) before moving up, but we also do not have Sr. AE or Management Sup titles. I’ve seen people leave and seen people wait.
It will depend agency per agency, for me it was 5,5 years from Junior Account Exec to Acc Director. But looking at my peers’ career paths at current place, this is rather fast and usually it takes more time. A lot depends on your performance, relationship with your managers and networking skills.
Junior Acc Exec - 1.5 y
Acc Exec - 5 mos, changed agencies at that point
Sr Acc Exec - 8 mos (I submitted my resignation at that point, got a raise and promotion)
Account manager - 7 mos + 8 mos at another agency
Senior Acc Manager - 1 year 10 months
Account Supervisor - 1 year
Account director - starting now
1.5-2 years for AAE and AE, 2-3 for AS
Similar to what others have said, worry more about whether you’re continually challenged in whatever role you’re in. Of course, you want to continually be taken care of financially too but I would advise against getting too hung up on title. I have a VP title now, but VP has a very different meeting at other places so I don’t get too excited about that being my title; it’s the equivalent of a group director at most agencies, as an example.
