Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Got messaged by a C3 . ai recruiter. Read that wlb is bad and that the interview process is absurdly long, but the Glassdoor reviews are 4.2 and can't find actual hours worked posted by anyone. How's the culture really? I'd be aiming for DS consulting, something more functional but with DS/ML concepts as my differentiator.

Do you work for one of them? 'Fixing' dating apps looks totally different from the perspective of the companies vs. the people using them.
I’d get rid of all the competition
Brilliant 💡
I think a good first step is identifying the problems, like:
Some users only want validation, not to meet someone - maybe reduce access to the app gradually if someone swipes a lot but never talks to other users.
Some want a serious monogamous relationship, some want something else (maybe forcing people to clarify AND then group them into those mutually exclusive pools so they don't see people in the other groups; switching groups would have a waiting period so this isn't abused). Maybe if someone misclassified themselves they can be reported and moved accordingly.
Limiting the number of matches you can talk to is also sound, so people can give each person their due attention.
I also think apps focus your attention on qualities that are irrelevant to chemistry, I get far more out of a five minute phone call than perusing your profile. Admittedly many people nowadays are uncomfortable on the phone.
