I would recommend against retiring while your wife is working. That can cause a lot of strain in a marriage. Just retire together. :)
What are your total annual expenditures? Are you including everything (healthcare, taxes, home maintenance, infrequent expenditures)?
Have you considered selling the rentals to augment your portfolio? It would probably allow about the same withdrawals with reduced risk.
How much are you saving every year? How long would it take you to add some extra safety? How do you feel about your job?
YMMV. I work full time, my husband retired two years ago. We both love the arrangement. I’m not ready to be done working; he was. I still like my job; he didn’t. Now I can delegate errands and tasks to him, freeing up more of my evenings and weekends for fun stuff. His retirement was a quality of life improvement for both of us.
Why are you asking a group of randos online instead of consulting with a financial planning expert?
or maybe he is trying to show off 😂
Omg did you just shame hourly workers with your assets and high salaries. You appear to be the type of gentleman who gives the wink and the gun in expressions
Are you really ready to reduce your monthly after tax cash intake from about $36K to $10K? You did not mention monthly expenses. You’ll need to add about $2K for health insurance. Maybe more. What if someone gets sick and needs long term care? How do you plan on giving back to the community that allowed you earn and save so much?
First off, congratulations. It appears that you have done much of the hard work, saving, and investing to get to this point. The thing that jumps out to me is your age. Still very young. I have an investment platform that is not widely know. It only can be applicable to what the IRS calls highly compensated individuals. Our clients are physicians, attorneys, and owners of successful companies, primarily. You would not need to move out of any of your existing positions to start one of these and the investment is very minimal. But it does a number of things that would be different than what you already have giving you multiple options on how you want to retire and which investment pool you should be pulling from first, second, etc or taxed vs nontaxible gains. If interested, please feel free to reach out to me for a casual discussion. If not, no worries. Congratulations again and good luck.
You have nothing to worry about. If I had 700k right now I could retire today and live happily, ever after. It sounds like don't know what the real world is all about. It is great that you have cash flow, a high net worth but you are used to the high life.
You have to make a budget so your bills are covered. The house may be paid for but there will be taxes, upkeep, insurance and so on. I wish I had your problem.
Wow, I feel so sorry for you for being so rich - not! Talk to a financail advisor.
Wow, and so you would like to build a 6 million dollar ballroom on the side of your house? Dude, the govt is shut down, people's snap payments have stopped, with young children with nothing to eat, what was your question again?
I retired at 31 good luck with inflation you will need to work till you are 70
How do you two manage to make so much money ? I’m over dying for some chump ass change
Sorry but what was this comment supposed to achieve? Given your income, I highly doubt someone like you would have no idea about how to manage money into your retirement.
Did you just want to brag and receive compliments to inflate your ego?
Luke 18:25
[25] For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.
Having money doesn’t make you bad - seek God to help guide you and prioritise if you love money more or God.
why keep working and stressing if you don't have to. Live minimally and if you don't have dependents why the heck work! travel the world, venture, do what you want to do instead of stressing about finances etc... live simply. Small is good simple is smart living. I don't understand why people start upgrading their house, cars etc... getting close to retirement that's so foolish. Start downsizing start to live as minimally as you can and just enjoy life avoid as much stress as possible if you can. Esp if you no longer have dependents. I don't get why people keep going hard after the nest is empty. Time to ease the seat back a bit and relax you did your duty. Enjoy the show. To each their own though, so do what you may. "free country" still to some regards and its a wonderful planet out there with some great people plus foods too!
Retire and do what? Play Pickleball? If you love your work but hate some responsibilities, get serious about shedding the responsibilities which might mean you lose some income but a this point, who cares? If you hate your work, get serious about finding something else or building something new.
I was roughly in the same spot as you about 6 years ago, so I quit my corporate job and started three companies in the last 6 years - one of which made me a lot of money, another one was a dud, and now I'm getting ready to sell my third and start my fourth.
Keep a job and take the benefits. You will all need health insurance, including college age kids after graduation I’d they are not working.
It takes 1 catastrophic event to wipe out everything you’ve worked for.
Keep building the nest egg. You are young and may want the same lifestyle you had now, in the future.
Sit with a licensed financial planner and credentialed tax expert.
There are ways to dial it back without retiring.

As a financial professional
You have a great opp to retire fully in 10 years with having a secure retirement of $300-400k a year using your funds in two places while saving on taxes and becoming your own bank like.
Below is a documentary about how the United States military has extremely advanced secret technology which they acquired primarily from crashed extraterrestrial vehicles from other solar systems in the universe. The people who made this documentary provide photos, videos, classified documents, testimony from multiple high ranking members of military, government, and intelligence communities, a method of contacting extraterrestrials with meditation, a dead extraterrestrial body, and much more evidence to support their claims. The United States military has a zero point energy generator. This device can pull infinite electromagnetic energy out of the fabric of space/time, provide infinite free energy for all people on earth, it could save millions of lives, and it could basically replace all our current energy systems, as well as replace the vast majority of energy industry jobs with this machine. They have a machine called an alien reproduction vehicle (or ARV). This is a vehicle which can travel faster than the speed of light, is capable of interstellar travel, has an electric-magneto-gravitic (or anti-gravity) propulsion system, and it could replace all the vehicles that we currently use. The United States military also has a machine called a med bed, which can identify any dis-ease, cure any dis-ease, could also save millions of lives, and it could replace the vast majority of health care jobs. If we relentlessly contacted and pressured those who are at the highest positions of all our institutions, then we could force them to release this technology, and we would only have to work for about 4 hours per week.

You have done well. Did you use a financial advisor to guide you?
In whic college will you be admitting your kids that the fees shall be $500k?
2 kids; one may do med (8 yrs)
Dude, I couldn't even dream of that money. I'm a teacher. Do what brings you joy! If that includes donation to a teacher's life coaching dream business startup, lmk! 😉 Wishing you the best!
At a $700K income level, your net worth appears somewhat low relative to what one might typically expect for that income range, though this is based on limited visibility into your actual lifestyle. There is no short-term concern, as your wife’s income is currently sufficient to support your spending.
