I am looking for honest input. I badly want to be a pilot. It's a huge commitment that includes frequent moving, deployment and long hours. How much longer are pilot hours than a regular job? How many days a week are you working? How hard is it to have a family?

Believe me: the important thing is to start. 1- Look for a school of theoretical classes; 2- take the theoretical exam; 3- start the practical classes (you will need at least 35 hours to be a commercial pilot) you will have the student license and after 20 hours you will be a sport pilot; The cost of an hour class on average is 150 to 200 dollars. Don't limit yourself to the US: you can work for any airline in the world. I am a specialist in industrial electronics applied to aviation

Realistically hours vary from what I understand worked with a p8 pilot. It is also heavily competitive 3.8 gpa end of college will make you have a better chance but not guaranteed. I also understand many fail out. If the hours anything like mine expect 10–12 minimum

I know 4 pilots and they love their job and they all have families. Their families love that they are pilots. They work long hours but the perk is they sometimes go to these awesome places.

Do you already have your own family? Your working hours really depend on your area of assignment.

Hmm. I'd say it really depends on your assignment. It's a good career path but also competitive.

Anyone watch the clock tick away and have this endless dread of the work day starting like me. When I wake up on weekdays I dread looking at the clock. During the day I mentally start counting down how much time is left on a 30 min break, on Sundays it’s a whole different story.

Where do I steer my career? I’m an introvert and someone who suffers from PTSD from my time on active duty. I honestly have no real desire to really go to an office and spend half my day pretending to be social and develop “relationships”. I honestly just want to bury myself in the work. Im not interested in happy hours or office golf functions and pizza parties. What is my best bet to staying in tax but also just doing my work and not having to participate in all this extra stuff?

Currently work in a very unique Wealth Management ops role.

Getting paid 85k base with 40k in bonus plus about 35k~ in OT.

Money isn’t everything but in my late 20s it feels like the only thing important right now.

WLB is next to zero as 60hr weeks are the minimum as of late. Management feels like they are trying to push a few of us out. Was told not to expect much come year end for comp. Any suggestions on finding a new role/pay expectations?

How do you get out of the burnout cycle? I’ve felt overwhelmed for a while and now I’m in the “can’t function at all” stage. It’s so hard explaining this to my manager because I already have a workload that’s lighter than others (not because of performance or my request). Any tips on how to get re-engaged, since the overwhelming feeling will come back?

I work at a small, 3 lawyer firm. One of the lawyers is not barred in the state we practice. Because of this, the managing attorney has been having him draft motions and other legal documents and use my name and bar number and having me file them because I will have to appear in court for the matter. Is this normal? I am not provided time to review the materials before I file them so I end up working longer days because I am nervous to file something using my name and bar number.

Mid year promotions, I found out you need to make your own case for it rather than the firm coming to you. If you think you’re ready make sure you speak up!

Do you have to tell your employer if doing a couple of hours a week of consulting on the side? ( Idon’t work in consulting anymore but wondering what people’s experiences are). Would they find out, eg if my tax code changed?

Do you think sticking it out in BL for 8 years pays off as far as in house prospects/salary go? Or is it all kind of the same after a certain time period. I’m in privacy if that helps (all aspects-trans, regulatory, lit).
