I’ve finally given in after years of being unmedicated (stimulants have too many side effects for me so I chose to go without). I was worried I’d get fired so made an appointment with a doctor. Was given Strattera, a non stimulant. Been on it for about maybe 6 weeks, and while I still struggle and sometimes get in trouble/have unfocused days, the difference has been night and day.

L2 even the partners don’t get assistants I’m afraid. I’m happy after so long you finally were given the boost you needed!
Congrats! Has Strattera just caused you to become organized? Or was there some behavioral component to the change? I also did not like side effects of stimulants and on them, while I was better able to focus, it didn't change the subject of my focus (procrastinating from work). Haven't tried that Rx yet.

L1 it didn’t by itself cause me to be more organized but it helped me to focus long enough to drag myself to get it done and to feel less fear which caused the procrastination that made me not do it. In M&A we do these long checklists that can span on for 30+ pages. We have to keep track of which document is being worked on by whom and where the document is as well as what hasn’t been done. It’s basically project management which I hate. We also have to manage those under us and those over us to make sure they get their work out and follow up with them so it’s a constant sludge. It’s difficult to do that and to also be responsible for drafting things and attending meetings as I become more senior. I hate these organizational tasks so much I kept putting them off or I’d feel overwhelmed and flustered. I still don’t wanna do them and still procrastinate to some extent but now I can make myself do it at least a few times a week instead of crying because of how boring I find it and now little I don’t wanna do it. Still struggle with procrastination sometimes (hence why I’m on fishbowl when I’m in the middle of typing a long email with a chart to my team telling them about our workflow allocations).
The best for executive function is a compound used for Alzheimer’s. That plus a stimulant.
Sorry some said I was cryptic with the medication above. Not my intention! Not on meds now and between jobs! The name of the drug is Memantine for executive function. It was tested with Methylphenidate. I use it with a different stimulant.
Memantine xr is a prescription drug. Generic is now available. So no longer super expensive. Also it is in combination with stimulant. It improves executive function.
Congrats!! I just can’t imagine how incredible that feels. Don’t credit the drug too much - it was also YOU and your ability to adapt and pivot to what’s being asked of you. You rose to the occasion, despite your ADHD. Job well done!!!

Thank you! Wins are short lived though. He’s back to being a jerk today, and I’m back to doubting myself and my abilities.

I also just noticed I’ve gone out more in just 2.5 months of 2024 than I did all of 2023. More networking events, more saying yes to things instead of letting crippling fear of rejection keep me at home on my couch… even more saying yes when I’m asked on dates. Like I said it hasn’t fixed everything, but it’s definitely improved my life by 50%. I still am not a “normal” neurotypical person by any stretch of the imagination and had better results years ago from stimulants as far as attention and efficiency go (but far more side effects and no help from stimulants with rejection sensitivity)
