Until our government creates jobs we will need to work whatever the client wants. Indian market is cheap labor market and we are not protected by labor law unless some unions gets in, that’s the reason you’ll not see union in IT and they do mass layoff without any repercussions
Yes, when company want to remove they can remove in a day, unfair practice in India...
India as a country has been ruled by foreign invaders for centuries. It’s hard to get the slave mindset out of us. We are the ones who give them power by aspiring to go to their lands, dress like them, eat like them, speak like them. In simple words we worship them. They give us the hikes we need to fund our fancy homes and cars and expensive holidays. So we are forced by ourselves only to listen to whatever they ask us to do. The fault is in us. And we too act like them when we get the chance — say you need household help to come at 7am and they say it’s too early for them, they can come at 9. You will simply look for someone else. Indian IT market is supplier of office help for the US. Don’t get angry. Try to find good employers. I have been very fortunate to have worked for companies where I could decline a meeting that was at an odd hour for me.
True.
US companies are paying money. You got to listen to people who pay you money. If you not interested in night shifts like me just decline the offer. But you don't think that you can change the cycle of economy just because who don't like it.
If u r earning 20-30lpa... Good for u to start thinking about such change. The one who doesn't will run for money over health.
Fair question, reasons are we are a poor country struggling with unemployment. There is no protection from government (in case somebody is forced into night shift)
I work with shell, their helpdesk support team in US works at night to support us in India during the day.
We are slaves of Germany and US. We should do as our masters say. We should say yes to whatever they say and be ready to login whenever they ask us to. We should start our work with Indian shift and end our day when our European bosses go home.
Best regards,
German slave
It depends on company to company. US people don’t hv any issues with the timings, it’s Indian IT services who asks ppl to work in shift just to grab more clients and more money. It’s an issue with Indian mindset.
I have been working in Swiss based product company and my team in US and India collaborates to just hv an overlap of couple of hours. Its purely work ethics
I totally agree it depends on the mindset of the company.
This is a serious issue keeping employees health in concern we need to work towards it to strive work only during India time without being stretched very late night just to match the US time zone and I oppose strictly to eradicate the night shifts from Indian MNCs.
I asked this same thing to my manager in funny way,he replied our market is build in such a way, that we are ready to work 24*7. Those guys don't ask, they say and our management happily accept it. This is how many companies work in IT.
True. We need more awareness on the health issues that are caused by different working hours
In fact, i see people looking for these shifts as they get few extra bucks.
Yes you are right. But people will realise it late.
Working in late shifts happens everywhere even banks, hospitals, IT, and other industries that provide support. The percentage of people working in shifts varies but it's not that it doesn't happen in other industries or countries. Only thing is in IT they over use this as an excuse for development projects as well which doesn't need whole of team to attend meetings, or work actually in shift but companies agree to clients to over commit offshore availability.
I did the same, rejected 2 offers….. worked in shifts for few years and now what I gained is BMI in obese category, hair fall, BP, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, fatty liver and don’t know what else I still have….. accepting low pay with good WLB and quality of life better than lucrative package which take toll on our health. I realize it lately
Bro question the govt why we don't get good jobs and have to be at mercy for these firms. Don't question the firms they are just doing business
True. Job availability is a factor in India. So whatever we get an opportunity we end up doing that but we are not much empowered to question the employer here.

@Author you don't like it don't do it. Those who like will do it. How hard is it for you to understand?
Chief
Then you still like the money. Fair deal, right?
