I got a 4. Should I just plan on leaving? I would rather not get fired. My scatterplot and utilisation was fine, but I got a lot of bad feedback about "cultural fit" and having an abrasive personality

Got put on a PIP with a 4 at year-end a while back, got a 2 and promo the next year. Unlike many companies where a PIP is just a witch hunt to justify firing you, you can legitimately improve and get over it here

like

Did your counselor know you are autistic? I suppose it isn't really anyone's business but that combined with being German are legit justifications for being perceived "abrasive". I'm sorry this happened to you OP

like

Yes sounds like you should leave tbh

like

And you're asking us for feedback?

like

Told I was too stuck on details in ways that impeded progress and that I personalise feedback.

like

I talked to my Counselor and manager after I posted this. Feel a lot more confident that l, with the right attitude, these are correctable problems and I'm grateful for the feedback and opportunity to improve. That being said, I'm unsubscribing from my own post. Would rather keep myself positive from here on out.

like

To answer those who asked for clarification about the assertion that I have an abrasive personality and problems connecting with people. I am German and it a native speaker of English. Sometimes American slang and humour catches me off guard. Also I am Autistic and, as a result, I do not pick up on subtle cues and hints as quickly as some of my "normal" peers. It can make some social situations difficult. I've mostly been able to mitigate the risks brought about with this condition in my professional life. However Deloitte's culture is a little different than I'm accustomed to. I will need to work on having a better understanding of how people perceive my demeanour and try to fit in a little better in that sense.

like

*disclaimer*: the majority of my "improvement" was just about finding the right role and practice in the firm and better adapting my working style to my team

like

Leave or stay - you have an opportunity to do some self-examination and take steps toward improvement - it the criticism is deserved and you leave, you haven't really changed anything

like

OP what makes you a data scientist? Not being condescending, genuinely curious. I have colleagues that know Tableau and call themselves data scientists

like

I don't know any company where an abrasive personality is a fit.....

like

@D4 Uber?

like

That's tough OP. You'll be ok. Proud to call you a colleague.

like

Would rather quit if my departure is inevitable. I'm a data scientist- I can get work elsewhere. Not worried about finding another job. I just don't want to leave on bad terms.

like

Thank you for the encouragement C2- I like everyone here and I love what I do. It's hard for me to show that sometimes. I'm glad they've made me aware of this. My only complaint is that I wish this feedback could've been given to me prior to Consensus. I'm a little blindsided, but that is no excuse.

like

I got boned my first year too, no good feedback, just low utilization. It happens, you can recover if you internalize the feedback. Otherwise search for greener pastures.

like

Yes I'm new to the firm. My first year.

like

@OP - Usually PIP is HR and Legal setting stage for termination, in a way there are not legal ramifications for the firm.

like

ACN1 that's only true if OP is solving for being a better fit at D. Leaving can be a step toward improvement if your definition of improvement is setting yourself up for career success.

Meeting D's expectations doesn't have to be your end goal.

like

I know partners who were on pips. It is not a death sentence, unless you make it one. Take the feedback to heart and you'll be fine.

Had an associate of mine recently confront me and say he has a crush on me. Told him nope and that would be very unprofessional. I’m growing concerned he is holding something against me.

How should I approach this?

Need suggestions: So I joined this bank and I was loaned to a different director in my team due to some long term leave for one of his SMs and audit with my director was deferred. The idea was that I would be involved in Fieldwork and take over reporting part. Issue is that I just despise the way this other Director is working. He would assign a task, and then start following up the very next day. And then after I send the document, he won’t even read that for a day!! Contd in comments

The week of my wedding, my husband (PL SQL Developer 4 yoe) was laid off. That was a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I'm still bringing money in as a software engineer, but I'm looking for advice on how to support a partner who has been laid off. Ultimately I think we will be ok, but I know he's hurting / stressed / and could use a supportive partner.

Brand new single post divorce. Was with ex almost 18 years and never dated as an adult. What the hell am I in for? 35f.

This is not my wheelhouse so I’m not sure of the answer. If someone is writing a “memoir” and is including me in it, and I DONT want to be in the book, do I have any legal recourse? I understand since it’s been published it doesn’t meet any invasion of privacy or potential defamation yet, but is there something I can do preliminarily to protect myself and stop my inclusion?
