Tech Sales. Spent 7 years in the automotive industry. And all I have to show for that is 7 lost years. Pay is double and work life balance is like nothing you have ever seen. Been off since last Friday for holiday break. And that’s pretty common in the tech world. 7-4 M-F. No 9pm turns coming in. Make the change and jump ship. Even for lesser pay, you will thank yourself.
Find a referral. Here is a good place. If you have work ethic, ability to learn and adapt.. You’ll be great anywhere.
I don’t know of a friend or colleague who has made the specific transition you mention, however, naturally there are many people who have made successful transitions like this one.
I do think you may want to challenge yourself to identity some other drivers for the change beyond work life balance. Very insightful of you, sir/madam. I think most of us would gladly put in a little extra work if we are happy and fulfilled in our professions. Unfortunately, misogyny and politics has gotten in the way of me enjoying the job. It’s that much harder to put in the extra hours on a daily basis. I thought to myself that a career change with more structured hours might be a good place to start ☺️
So many succeeded in making a transition even from one field to another. As long as you have the transferrable skills and the knowledge of the role, you can always use it as a leverage during your application. You'll never know unless you try.
