Ultimately results matter. Seek clarity on expected results and current performance in KPI’s. Ask your boss for standard work and key tactics they expect. Implement a daily management system to show implementation of the SW and tactics. If they are the correct ones, the results will come.
This.
Addressing concerns about micromanagement and feeling overwhelmed with criticism from your boss can be challenging but important for maintaining a healthy work environment. Approach the conversation with a solution-oriented mindset and express your concerns in a respectful and professional manner. I would encourage you to send an email requesting a meeting to discuss your working dynamics. Let your boss know you are experiencing increased difficulty in managing the feedback and direction you have been receiving. While you genuinely appreciate the constructive criticism and valuable guidance, you are starting to feel a sense of being excessively monitored and scrutinized. This has started to affect your performance and it is hindering your ability to operate at an optimal level. You want to ensure that you are both on the same page regarding expectations and that you have the opportunity to contribute effectively to the team's success.
They are joining every meeting telling me how to run it and what to do and say during my meetings. I am honestly at a loss. It is intimidating and highly unnecessary for them to join my morning meetings with my team.
That's a pretty tough situation you have there. I would feel very small and would make me want to question my competence especially that they're doing it in front of your team. Why don't you privately talk to your boss and explain things to him. Ask him to give you time to meet his expectations so he can stop hovering around you.
That is exactly what I feel.
I feel as though nothing I do is enough.
They asked me to call out my team during our meeting, that is not the type of manager I am and instead of standing my ground and letting her know that’s not my leadership style. I completely deflated and just said okay.
I am honestly so defeated and have lost all confidence and trust in my abilities.
Not a great place to be when trying to have a conversation with this person.
Any tips?
I can absolutely feel your pain. As a director its my responsibility to outline how I want these reports to look and get you all the tools you need to be successful. I used to get an understanding of where that person came from and create something they may be used to seeing to make them feel at ease.
