If you want to die while waiting for medical care you need, go to the VA

Sounds like a nightmare. Is what for simple visits too? Or a medication refill? Goodness.
Yes I do. I have good insurance and am well off enough to just pay for private healthcare when I need it. Plus, those providers are far better than anything the VA has given me. Last time I went to the VA I sat in the room waiting for the doctor for over an hour before I just walked out.
If you don’t have other options I guess the VA is fine, but if you do I’d say avoid if possible.

Interesting!! Thank you so much for your experience. That doesn’t sound very great especially when you aren’t feeling well. I guess I didn’t know this about the VA hospitals/doctors.
Every VA is different when it comes to customer service and appointment availability. I’ve found the private sector care much better and fortunate to have insurance that covers it. I may use the VA when I’m older but it doesn’t fit my needs right now

Makes sense based on above comments. Thanks for sharing!
I’ll give you an example: I have a sister and brother in law who are both doctors. Both went to the top med school and got into both of their fields that are the two most competitive.
I had to fight the VA for a MRI. Brother in law is a surgeon and said based on the pains I felt, MRI should be a given. Only when I mentioned my relations and what they said did my PCP put in the order for a MRI. I brought it up 3-4 times to my PCP until it was done.

Okay… kinda laggy and not the best attentive care. That’s really terrible to hear. Thanks for sharing, I really appreciate it.
If the VA is anything like the medical hobby shops I experienced on active duty, stay away!
My only experience with a VA hospital was my postseparation exam & they nicked a nerve in my arm while drawing blood (you'd think something as simple as that would be easy, but nooooo...) & I felt it for weeks....I wouldn't trust them to do anything at all complicated.

My jaw is on the floor. Holy moly! A simple blood draw!! I’m so sorry that happened to you. Geez!
