The fact that it is a higher position that you did not apply for should be your leverage.
Somehow let them know the price you mentioned was for x role. Not that you are given this great opportunity for y role, based on extensive research and market trends, z salary is what you need.
So they gave you a higher title and top of your range pay, and you aren’t happy? Would you rather have had the lower title where perhaps the top is below your pay ask? With the new title you have a lot of room for pay growth once you start imo.
You messed up, you can try but you might have undersold yourself at the beginning
How should I go about reconciliation? I don't want to come in at an associate level but earn way less than the others on my team lol
You gave your range, they beat it. Kinda looks bad unless you have a higher competing offer or something else changed that you didn’t know of before.
ugh. I know. I don't want to come across as greedy but I also don't want to undervalue myself either.
What’s your specialty and how many YOE? Like others are saying, you don’t have very firm ground to argue for more money when they already beat your ask. But whether or not they even bother will depend on what the job actually is. Associate is a level not a role.
Yeah, I hear that. It's in org transformation and change management.
After extensive market research including what my peers would be making on the team. I went to request xyz amount.
Please do let me know if there are any considerations based on internal cohort bands .
Yoe?
Oh wow - that’s amazing for only 3 years
Consultant1 is right. Ask for 20-30% more and see what they say. They will not pull your offer just for attempting to negotiate.
Depends on what kind of work you're in, 3yoe in what and with/without a post graduate degree? I'd say you're fine unless you're in a really HCOL area
What job family? Organizational transformation and change consulting?
You want more money on top of the extra they already offered you? And they gave you a level up (possibly to be able to justify the extra money) and now you’re acting like you are already at that level and asking for a higher salary of someone who has been operating at that level for some time? You can always ask but think through your reasoning and what you are bringing to the table, not just what the market says. If you’re worth it, then bring them proof points to demonstrate you have operated at that higher level with success.
SA3 offers sound advice. Offers get rescinded.
Have an honest convo with the recruiter - hey, this offer is great, but you know I can’t take the first offer, what’s in the realm of reasonable?
Suggest it’s more , “this offer is great, is there any more flexibility given the higher level?“ vs a demand. They are not always trying to lowball you.
Step 1. Confirm the actual peer salary ranges
Step 2. Listen to what most ppl above said.
Step 3. Accept and celebrate
Step 4. Update us
