You don’t really have to do a lot of talking when socializing. Just maintain eye contact and seem interested and keep the convo going by asking open ended questions about the topics they bring up. People love to talk about them selves and their interests!
In that case do some research about the topics that are most talked about! If it’s sports find one team learn the star players names and general stats and you can use that!
Find a relatable topic. Doesn’t have to be sports, can be kids, construction project, cars, traffic, vacations etc. just be yourself. If you’re on site, you can usually see things to spark a conversation to be relatable. For example a marvel character figurine, a degree showing a university. Usually your AE is supposed to be building relationships and creating that feel good about the meeting. You’re the technical advisor as long as you can make things easy to understand, youre doing good.
Find something that genuinely interests you about the people you are talking to and focus on that.
People always reveal parts of themselves. All you need to do is pay attention to when your curiosity is piqued.
