I resigned from Capgemini and joining KPMG but now Capgemini has offered a matching base pay plus 14% bonus and 10k signing bonus. In a dilemma now. I have never been with a Big 4 company and thinking if I should stay with Capgemini or move ahead with KPMG for a better career growth. Please help. Also consider the current recession. I have been promised for a promotion by KPMG next year but don't know how the hikes are.

I was in this situation recently. My best advice is there is a reason you resigned. Normally because some sort of development or recognition hasn’t been there. If you really think this is a changing point then it’s fair game but always question why you wanted to leave in the first place. Why weren’t you given your worth without having to leave? That’s how I felt anyway.

likehelpful

If the money isn’t a lot, you really should do some reflection on why you’d stay. If it doesn’t work out at the Big4 you will easily be able to get a job elsewhere. Always worth a try as you more regret the decisions you don’t make. Good luck deciding. Have you had any more thoughts?

Never ever accept counter especially in scenarios like yours.

Thank you so much. Really. That was very helpful and motivating.

Move on. You see what it had to take to get paid your worth and you already know how Cap is about bonuses. You won’t see the full 14%. 10K will lock you to them for a year while they can let you go at any time without you having a next move in place.

KPMG saw your worth with their offer and will be a step forward for your career as you stated. Also there’s more room for pay to increase. Cap’s raises aren’t the best. You’ll fall behind the pace of market pay again. Plus, once at one Big 4, you can move easily between the Big 4 and increase your pay even more. Cap won’t match the pace.

Admittedly Cap has interesting tech projects, however, I can’t imagine that other firms don’t have the same. The career progression and everything else listed above outweighs that very weak argument, wouldn’t you agree?

Congrats!

I left Cap for KPMG and have zero regrets. Part of my reason for leaving Cap was the pto and promo raise for SC->M…8% just didn’t cut it.

100% move to a Big4 if you’re looking for brand name. I just made it to FAANG and Im confident it’s about the type of exposure, projects, people you get to work with at such orgs.

like

Just go straight to KPMG. You'll regret it if you accept a counter offer. No matter how much is the raise, they are gonna see you differently from now on. Just don't look back.

What group in KPMG did you leave cap for lol tryna see how the hell I can leave when all my exp is in digital transformation PMO 😂😒 trying to get to another group in cap if possible.

Maybe I'm a contrarian, but I have accepted counter offers twice in my career. Both times I left within the next 12 months (largely Bc the original issues for my desire to depart remained). Yet, I am happy I did. Both offers essentially elevated me up a level and was my new basis for seeking new opportunities.

Said differently, there are two advantages of taking the counter.

1. Things get fixed and you are happy you stayed
2. They don't, but you get a nice pay raise year 1 and then find a new gig for an additional increase year 2

Good luck

Is there such things as FP&A positions in Big 4? If so, are there better times to make the change than others (I.e. at senior vs manager)? I’m currently in FP&A and looking to work at a Big 4, or another company that offers the ability to move abroad. My current company and many others I know about do not offer the mobility to do so until much later, which is not what I want. Thank you.

So, I just fired my first employee as a manager and I'm heartbroken. He was a great, great person but after 6 months on a PIP he just wasn't cutting it skills-wise. I know he was the provider of the household and his wife didn't have a job since she was raising three young ones. Needless to say, I had to take off because I felt terrible, sick to my stomach. How do you deal with firing guilt? Is that a thing? I can't help but feeling like I did something wrong.

After 6 years of temporary contracts and unstable situations, I find my dream job in my dream company. All of a sudden the world goes upside down and I get laid off. I start sending hundreds of applications, with only 2 recruiters getting back to me to say I don’t have experience for the job (this is how it works in Italy). Add a terrible health situation in my family and it seems there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. Ugh. 😞
