If you’ve been fired from a professional job for not being able to effectively keep pace, how early before that did you get the feeling you may not be able to cut it?

Just fired my therapist. Feels better than it should

I started a full time in-house design job that pays extremely well. I barely have to work at all. This makes me very confused since I kept hearing stories of people working 60+ hr weeks as designers at ad agencies. I am not complaining, but I have this creeping irrational feeling that I’ll get fired for not working even though there’s nothing for me to do. Should i be making up projects or asking for more work? Or just chill out? I just feel very confused. Are a lot of full time jobs like this?

I know agencies across the board did some layoffs right before the holidays, but when do we think hiring will pick up again? Getting to a point where I feel like I need to start thinking about a change.

I made a couple errors at a new job. An important document to be distributed had wrong information on it, which was proofread by 2 other people. Then a couple of typos in emails, the person micromanaging me told me to send out but I didn’t fix the errors. Failed to meet a deadline but completed 95%. I was written up over all this last week, fired this week. There’s a lot more to this but I think it’s because the DM doesn’t like me.

What is a good interview answer for leaving a job after a few months when the real reason is that you’re sleeping with one eye open in hopes of not being on the chopping block after two rounds of massive layoffs? It’s so nice that every agency laying off people, have those left standing (and other agencies) trying to hustle jobs for their unemployed friends, but there are also a ton of people who were unemployed prior to Covid...so no severance, job hunting lot longer, and not earning income for longer time...hurting even MORE due to quarantine.

I’ve been phished so many times (due to checking emails while on client calls, or while my kids are screaming my name) that I do not even know how and when to fully distinguish if I am being phished or not.

Okay, let’s take a break from the salary comparisons. How much are you able to save per month/year? Strictly cash savings, don’t include company matches or returns, just the amount of cash you save. Include the city or just indicate HCOL, LCOL, etc. so that we have context. Interested in what strategies folks are using to save.
