I was in the same situation - a decade in, knackered, burnt out, but Partner in sight. I couldn’t muster the energy to go for it though. Just moved clientside. Three months in and I feel totally rejuvenated. Plan is to do this for a few years whilst the kids are young and then see if I want to go back consulting side.
Maybe worth having a chat to see exit options? At least that will let you reevaluate whether partner track is the most appealing route?
I was burning myself out, putting my marriage at risk and have since taken a much different approach. I’m doing what I need to do, performing well by all rights but not aggressively chasing a PPED promo. Shutting down my PC at 6 to spend time with family, taking every opportunity for remote work, turning down extracurricular tasks or extra BD work and focusing on hitting my metrics on a few key clients. I’m guarding my time extremely aggressively for my own sanity and the well being of my family.
I’m getting recognition for good work for sure but if not going those extra miles that crush my personal life costs me a shot at partnership then I’m fine with that. If it’s never enough to make partner and I can only be a non equity partner I’m fine with that too. I have ups and downs for sure, but I’m relatively young, make enough money for me and my family to live comfortably and my quality of life is far better than I realized it would be because I can truly focus on being the type of husband and father I want to be. This works for me, but to each his own.
Likewise. Burnt. Crisp. Exhausted.
Take a LOA and evaluate if this is the industry you want to stay in. If not, start applying for jobs
P1 - why did you stay?
Get partner then take a good amount of time off to celebrate
