Is a LCSW-C necessary if a person does not want to provide therapy / open up a practice / changing careers no longer social work based, moving toward tech health roles?

Is it worth having?

How are you making the change? Is it challenging?

I’m doing a lot of networking researching different companies and reaching out to people individually. Im also tweaking my resumes so it’s not solely about work with clients / patients and showing that my skills are transferable. I’m excited for the change

Clinical social workers make up 30% of the MSWs. The license is essential for private practice or billing insurance. Some organizations require the MSW to be licensed for supervision of staff. Anything more pure administrative including leadership positions may require for accreditation purposes but not necessarily for the job duties. IMHO

Well, if you do, get the agency or organization to pay for it or reimburse you. I have worked in both capacities and if it was a condition of employment but I was pure administration, I sought reimbursement as it can be expensive to maintain.

It may depend on the role you want in tech. Review job descriptions for role’s you’re interested and see what their requirements are.

From what I’ve seen the only ones that have the LCSW requirements i the telehealth social work positions which I won’t be applying for

Interested in what type of tech health role you are applying for? Interested in learning about it and see what are other career options out there for LCSW

Been on my mind for a while, all thoughts welcome!
So I’m gonna assume that most of us in L&E are in it for the passion, otherwise we would have taken corporate commercial or M&A for the money.
So… where do you see your ‘ultimate resting spot’? Would it be 1) global head of L&E law at a big company, having to always be under the global GC, or 2) just collect enough experience to take the GC route? This of course has way more money, but work with stuff that doesn’t excite you as much, or 3)…?

Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.

Additional Posts in Social Workers & Therapists

Hello, I’m an LMSW in Michigan. I have 15 years of experience in the field as a clinician, supervisor, and an administrator. I am feeling burnt out and unsure of my future. I have worked mainly in the Community Mental Health and the VA Health systems, hence my fatigue. I’ve flirted with private practice work in the past, but my spouse has been worried about not having affordable healthcare and benefits that each system provides. Is it worth the jump? Am I overthinking things?

So embarrassed. I literally had one job to do today which was to schedule a client and give and take her paperwork when she came in. Totally called her by the wrong name today AND gave her the wrong paperwork. She was really nice about it but I feel like my boss was disappointed and I'm disappointed in myself. I don't want her to think I won't be able to keep clients straight when I start doing supervised sessions.

Have you ever dealt with a colleague that believes in extremely (in my opinion) outdated or even just false claims and treats them as scientific facts? I work with several older men but one of them practices "provocative therapy" as in you just play the devil's advocate with your patient and side with the negative half of their thinking. In theory I could see this working situationally, but as a whole philosophy regardless of the patient's issue I think it's ridiculous.

What misconceptions do you think people have about social work? or therapy?
Mine is my family still believes that only "sick" or unhappy people need to see a therapist, so they don't understand why I go to one since I have a job and a family. It's oldschool thinking and pretty annoying tbh.

What do you guys think about apps like BetterHelp and Talkspace? I understand they might have real therapists working on their content, but a lot of the marketing I see is so vague and broad that it feels like a lie. Seems like "This app got rid of my anxiety with a 30-minute automated text questionnaire" is the new "This tea made me lose 20 pounds in two weeks!" Just seems a little fad-like and money grabby to me. Thoughts?

How many therapists (and social workers too!) see a therapist themselves? Do you find it helpful?
I think there's this myth that therapists have all their own sh*t figured out, and for me at least I know that's far from true (hopefully it isn't just me). On the contrary, I think we should be leading by example!
