As a former ATker I can tell u that such cases r fast tracked and u can negotiate that as part of your move - but again that means meeting some aggressive goals as well .
It is! Go ahead! In the mid term you will grow faster
If same / more pay .. yeah I would take lower role at ATK. Definitely not a pay cut.
If u are a manager already in a strategy role then ask for 1 year review
Why are you worried about pay in the short term? There’s a pretty big gap between ATK and KPMG comp as you progress to manager and principal. Coming in at one lvl below and killing it is always better than a slow start at current level
Having said that, we never promise a ‘fast track’. So I’d recommend not wasting a negotiation lever on the fast track to promotion. Focus on the money (total cash)
ATK2, can you negotiate total cash? I thought bands are usually fixed or have very limited variation?
@ATK1, not worried about comp at all. I am hesitant to go back and be stuck at Associate level for 2 years etc
If u are stuck at associate for 2 years U will be ushered out given your current level at a different firm. U should target no more than 12-18 months
Hard to answer the question in a vacuum - depends on the type of work you'd be doing vs. what you're doing now, what you want to do with your long-term career, etc. To answer generically, I wouldn't take a step down for anything less than MBB
Thanks, should I negotiate for fast tracking to Manager?
You will definitely not be stuck . Either up or out in an Year.
What’s the typical considerations for an Associate to Manager at Tier 2s? Is it the same as Big 4?
There’s a band for each level, you’re not going to be able to get outside of that band. And if you do negotiate to the top of the band they will hold you there until you are promoted. I think you may not fully really realize how much the bonus impacts total comp, and that it’s completely dependent on performance. At big 4 you get a laughable bonus, here it’s 10-50% of your base comp depending on level and performance.
