Is anyone a divorce attorney that would be willing to DM or chat live? My partner and I are probably nearing a divorce, and I’m very worried about my alcoholism (sober a year in 5 days) being a major hit against me. Also a few other things I’m trying to understand in case she moves proactively on this. I have a 2yr old daughter and am so scared I’ll be caught off guard and maybe be fighting from behind. We have combined finances so I’m struggling to have a discussion that’s billed and she sees.

I am not a therapist, but I've been to enough of them to be considered a fellow traveler. Your last reply indicates things aren't as dire as your initial post. Good. There's still hope. Talk to your wife. Let her know how you feel about her and your daughter. If you need to bring up your past problems with alcohol and current battle against addiction, frame it in a positive way -- focus on her important role in keeping you strong. Do not flip the coin and say your life will fall apart without her. That sounds like you are unstable, and that's not the message you want to send. Remember that God never promised a life without obstacles, but keeps His promise to provide a path around any obstacle that life erects.

Any chance she'd agree to meet with a mediator? That's usually the least contentious way to go about it, and it costs way less money as well. Sorry, man. I've been there. If you need to up your meetings, do it. Protect your hard work at all costs.

I don’t think she is going to pull the trigger on pushing for a divorce. I’m not ready to do it either. I’m just trying to protect myself and understand a few factors… like how my alcoholism might be used against me. I just don’t want to be caught off guard if she surprises me and does start it.

Long winded way to say I don’t think mediation is right at this moment.

Sobriety #1. Surrender #2. Everything else works out how it’s supposed to #3.

I am so sorry tat you are going through this OP. I don't think you mentioned where you are from and that is going to make a big difference in who foks will recommend.

Okay finance gurus, I have an idea and interested in your thoughts. Might be a bad one so be gentle 🙂. I have a 2 yr old and another on the way. Need to start planning for college. I was thinking of buying a condo or 2 in lieu of saving and selling them down the line for tuition. Condos downtown are pretty inexpensive (T3) so it’s financially feasible. But is this a good idea or too risky?

I went to the lease this last weekend. Not one drop of alcohol was had. That was the closest I’ve come to caving. 4 wheelers, killing dinner with big guns, doing manly things in God’s country. Sharing some thoughts I’ve had lately:

The end of my suffering occurs with the death of my ego. I am reborn when I surrender to life exactly as it is, right at this moment (and it’s always “this moment”). I can begin to grow when I either accept life as it is, or I change my life because I can’t accept it. The better I become at surrender and acceptance, the more I experience serenity. After a long enough time I realize I’ve had a spiritual awakening. Now I am peace / joy / love.

I started working for a bank and am going through the background check. They found an arrest which was dismissed and the file was sealed a few days after the check. They’re requesting the police report on top of the court order to seal. The police report is BAD. During the arrest (DUI) they wrote the report to make me seem like a complete lunatic. Embellished on several elements of the case. I am worried that giving them this report will cause me to be let go.

I’m sober curious. I’m also about to help a new non-alcoholic spirit company with their launch.
I have a question for people in recovery. If a brand were to contend that sobriety is a spectrum, or allow for that to a least be part of the conversation, how does that make you feel? Are other brands doing a good job of being inclusive of people who are truly sober?
(I get that NA drinks / spirits can be triggering for people in recovery)
Thank you.
