After working at a couple of "progressive" organizations that espouse and advocate for progressive policies but treat their employees terribly, particularly their Black and Brown employees, I think ethical companies are unicorns.
Analyst - no I don't think you can because your foundation is skewed. I wrote a paper on business ethics are part of my masters and there are basically four levels of ethics at work you need to figure out how to be at peace with if you want to feel fully ethical: how you deal with yourself at work; how you and your work team / group / BU deal with each other; how you and your company deal with each other; and how society and your company interact.
So if you are knowingly entering a company that you consider is unethical - wouldn’t you be contributing to its unethical ways by working for them?
I mean, unless you have some mission to get into leadership and make some “ethical” changes then I would say yes, you could probably lead an ethical career that way.
But I think we all need to work for “unethical” companies to build that experience to then shift companies in the direction that is considered “ethical.”
Also, I agree with previous statements in that in a capitalistic society I’m not sure if ethical companies really exist.
But this is just my two cents.
Think about it???? I don’t see how you can be ethical in an unethical company unless you are the CEO and can change the direction.
