Is it possible to move over from PE (director level) to consulting ? I have had numerous people in consulting shoot this idea down. But consulting seems far more interesting and giving variety of work. And how would one do it? Another way perhaps might be to try to join an ops team but I believe they largely gather those staff from consulting firms.

I have a few questions for people in consulting roles (both external/internal).

My partner is in corporate banking, but he wants to switch to a consulting/strategy-based role. I noticed people with those jobs typically have an MBA, and also majority of the job ads in similar roles has MBA as either a requirement or preferred qualification. So:

1) does MBA actually improve someone's chance in getting those roles?
