Here I'm

I think this is a tech industry role. A sales engineer is typically assigned to manage the technical requirements of a sale. They can be customer facing but more focused on getting the solution implemented than getting the contract signed. At least that has been my experience.

I just finished 7 years in an SE role. You bring a mix of technical background and soft skills to aid an account manager close deals. Each role is quite different in its responsibilities, so read any job listing carefully. Some require heavy travel commitments, too. It is hard work, but can be rewarding. It may be tough to break out of the role though, as you will be seen as the 'technical guy' by your team.

So I have a felony. I interviewed with a recruiter today who was super cheerful and nice. Once I disclosed my felony, which she already knew about since a friend referred me to her, she immediately stopped the interview and said she couldn’t in good faith move forward on my application given the nature of my offense. I explained that I had done my time, paid my fines and restitution and had the experience to become a great asset to the organization. -she suggested I look into bartending.

My company blames my generation for not being able to hire everyday. “You guys don’t want to work” coming from some overweight, racist, old coaster. I’ve barely taken any days off this year and pick up “skeleton crew” days any chance I get. I was able to work out a deal with my company before I came because of prior experience luckily, but they offer a terrible base salary and sham of a commission structure to new hires + no remote. Then sit here and can’t figure out why…

Now I’m actively looking for a new sales position, have tons of experience, but am struggling to even get a response from job apps. I am wondering if this is because of my employment gap? I don’t have my side business listed on my resume because I don’t feel like I have enough positive “stats” to report yet given it’s new. Any advice or recommendations?
