I've worked in IT for the better part of a decade. At my previous position, my entire division was laid off to be off-shored last year and I took up a temporary IT contract role at a hospital to pay the bills where I was basically a glorified handyman while I continued looking for a full-time position. My contract has ended and I'm once again unemployed and still searching for work and am falling into despair at the dehumanizing state of the job search in the current market.

I'm an investment banker and in late stages of a couple CorpDev roles of Fortune 200 companies. Both roles report to Head of CorpDev. I would be interested to understand the typical career progression. Assuming Head of CorpDev will stay in position for the next 5-10 years, what is the expectation of upward mobility then? I am a first year who just started a couple of months ago and I am literally confused all the time. I did some small work for two partners and they loved it, so put me on new deals but the mid levels I am staffed with absolutely hate the work I do. One said the work I did was laughable. I felt bed because I spent over 25 hours on this. I wouldn’t be very bothered but the other Associates in my class are killing it. So I just feel dumb all the time.
