Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

It sounds like her heart is in the right place, though I don't know how sharing specific financial goals would be helpful, especially knowing that she has zero influence as soon as she turns i thst laptop. Help her ti help you the best she can, but don't over-share.

True. It’s my responsibility to take care of my family. But my boss told me she thinks if they whispered in my VP’s ear that I wanted to leave, he’d step on it and promote me sooner. But who knows. I just don’t want to be stuck with feeling obligated to be loyal to a company that wouldn’t care.
I’d use this opportunity to soak up as much as you can from them. Discuss your long-term goals and get any advice you can. If you feel like specific numbers will help, I’d consider it, but maybe don’t start there.

Thanks so much for your input.
Do you have any idea who your new boss will be? A good introduction will be important

You mean after she retires? No. Not sure who will take her place.
You can advocate for yourself by asking her what you can do to step into her role when the time comes. Then do those things. Work hard. The money will follow.

I don’t think I have what it takes to her job. She’s a senior director. I’m a lowly employee and can’t handle the pressure. I wish I could bc the pay is good. I have a hard time doing public interactions and managing people.

Have you spoken at all about career progression and whether her role will be open after she retires or if they are trying to internally fill?
Mentor
I have never thought to ask. Didn’t want it to seem eager for her retirement. Lol Should I ask her? Don’t know what to say.
