How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.
Hi, I'm leaving Citi in 2 months. It's hard to make this decision. I have an offer from a small startup. In citi, my previous experience was not considered and was reskilled to different tech which is the reason for change.I don't like to exit citi. As I like the company so much. But considering my current knowledge,I am in the middle of the sea.I am afraid now that the new company's offer would be revoked due to this recession?Or can I take back my resignation in citi before the last working day.Is this wise decision?

Fears of a recession are reasonably causing people to take a second look at their job security. Took a similar path (BS Accounting / JD), then went directly into international at B4. Had the opportunity to do a LLM while working, but I didn’t think it opened up any new opportunities.
I agree there is a big push for LLMs. It does make you more tax technical as a new hire. However, if you already have tax experience and can get into the group you want, I don’t see the value. I would expect JD/accounting degree to be in a similar pay group as JD/LLM (which is more than just having a CPA). My original point remaining, even if you make 10k less than a LLM for a few years, is it worth it?
I don’t really see the value in the LLM if you’re already in the industry and have a good base from undergrad/law school. I don’t have an LLM and I probably won’t go back for one because I’ve gotten to year 3 and haven’t felt like I missed out by not getting an LLM. Maybe later career I’ll go part time just to have the credential.
What position were u hired for after law school ?
Are you interested in compliance, defending taxpayers, M&A tax, International Tax, or what?
Not necessarily. I got my job with a JD, but it was very difficult because it was during COVID. Firms just typically hire interns. By far the easiest way to get a job (hopefully you also learned this in law internships). You will be an entry level accountant along with the 23yr old student that got their masters in tax. Don’t get discouraged by it.
Go for international tax, SALT, Estate & Gift Tax, or M&A and you should get better treatment as a JD.
I have a similar path. I got a job in big 4 in international tax. Now I am getting my LLM part time while working full time in big 4. Feel free to message me!
I’m a non-LLM attorney at a midrange tax consultancy (been here 2 years). EY’s best offer to me was a 40k pay decrease in business credits. Do you know if international tax makes better offers?
