Whoever laughed at this is a ghoul
Apply for unemployment ASAP!
It’s a cruel company packaged with sprinkles and a bow.... just surreal.
This is why our healthcare should be separated from our employment like every other civilized country.

Employers definitely need to exit the healthcare market. The risk pools would increase which would make healthcare more accessible and affordable for the general public.
That’s absolute garbage!! If they knew you were pregnant and laid you off solely for that reason, I’d sue. I’m a male and just thinking about how if that happened to my fiancée really pisses me off. So sorry...wishing you the best and most importantly a healthy baby!
Eh but Deloitte will probably pay to make it go away
They knew you were pregnant when they laid you off?
Yes
Sorry OP. please DM your resume. Can send to my network for referrals and also check in Accenture. Sending you our best!
Very grateful will do, and appreciate it.

No offense, but being pregnant shouldn’t grant you immunity to layoffs. Your coach isn’t making these decisions
D1 is what is wrong with Deloitte.
OP I wish you the best. And no matter what - you are entering the best moment of your life. I promise
Coach
Can you sue them? Consider it since you may need a baby cushion. I know someone who sued at PwC and got 5 months severance. They were not even pregnant, just Asian.
Asians sue?
I am so sorry. I wish you the best.
OP don’t sign the standard severance! Speak to HR to negotiate 4 month additional health insurance coverage by the employer through your delivery and postpartum complications. If they resist let them know you will get an employment rights lawyer involved. It’s worth looking into. You may be considered a protected class depending on your state. For example...New York state law prohibits discrimination based on:
Race
Color
National origin
Religion
Sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions)
Disability (physical or mental)
Age (18 and older)
Genetic characteristics
Marital status
Familial status (being pregnant, caring for a child under 18, or seeking to adopt a child under 18)
Set up a gofundme if you are comfortable. I would be happy to contribute and help you get through this tough time. I am sure many colleagues would be happy to contribute as well.
Have you signed your severance agreement yet? If not, I suggest trying to negotiate it to include healthcare through EOY and potentially salary for the maternity leave period. Consider involving a lawyer too. Deloitte should be much more worried about a discrimination lawsuit as well as disparagement than with other layoffs. If you’ve already signed, be careful what you’re saying here, and elsewhere, as you almost certainly signed confidentiality and non-disparagement clauses that you’re now violating. It’s probably not too hard for Deloitte to identify you based on the details you’ve provided.
Nope didn’t sign it.
That’s my birthday. Please let me know how I can help OP
Thank you so much
Very sorry to hear OP, and wish you all the best. My wife is due around then as well, and couldn’t imagine if that happened to us.
With that said, it may help after you take the time (meaning, no rush) and get back to this thread on what you’d like to do in the near-term. No need to share severance details if you don’t want to, but it would help to know if you plan on waiting after the baby / leave to return to work, or are hoping to return immediately. I’m happy to share your resume within my network too if that will help, at whichever time frame works best for you. Again, no rush, as I know there are a lot of helpful people on here that are happy to support. Good luck!
Happy to refer at PwC if that helps. Not sure it’s much better of a situation
Deloitte has a thousand partners who knows whom is making the decisions. Definitely was not my coach who had zero knowledge. That said, obviously I’m not immune but over 1/2 way to term is a bit rough. Would not want anyone to walk in my shoes, not even you! I think our system has enough people “being thrown under the bus” as is. Next.
There are really good people at Deloitte and a lot of not so great folks too. The longer the stay, the more they become the same and lose themselves to get that brass ring. At least that’s what I’ve noticed... Never apologize, always work to improve and change things for the greater good. 😊
Sorry to hear this
Please let me know if I can help you in anyway OP. Sorry to hear this!
Thank you very much.
