Stay in PA. Maternity leave and job security is significant value that almost no industry companies can match.
It really depends on the industry. You can’t just say “industry” accounting jobs have significantly less job security than PA. The overall accounting profession has very high job security in general so I wouldn’t be making my decision on whether to stay in PA or not based on this.

Public accounting dad’s perspective, it’s fine to stay in PA if your husband’s job is much less demanding and he’s willing to take on more of the kid responsibilities. Unless you plan on hiring live in help or have a flexible arrangement with your employer, it’s not possible for both parents to work jobs as demanding as PA.
Who is gonna look after your kids?
My state day care cost $60/day so $15k. Not too bad.
I'd stay in PA for the maternity leave at least. I checked with my husband before leaving PA - any chance we plan to have a kid within the next year or so? No? Alright I'm out.
But would have stuck it out potentially otherwise. I lucked out that when I did have a kid, my company had just implemented 4 weeks parental leave + had 8 weeks short-term disability (paid at 100% of my normal pay) for my c-section.
On that we can agree. [For what it’s worth, I’d argue that Tax Manager 1 came in hot - she was attacking me in such an unprovoked manner.]

Industry can be a shit show too. Even a good job can turn sour if profitably goals shift. PA can be very supportive of new parents. If you have a good situation then hang on to that.
Public maternity leave is why I stayed for one and then more kids. Then I just kept staying. It gets better every year.
If you’re otherwise content, stay in PA. I had 18 weeks off paid, and the flexibility to attend events/classes likely won’t be the same with industry. PA is tough as a mom, but it definitely has its benefits too.
I just left public for industry with the plan to have kids in a couple years… maybe would be fine if my husband didn’t also work at big 4
I left PA after over 15 years when my oldest was 5 and youngest was 2. I loved my PA job and I had the best team but in some ways I wish I had made the switch sooner. I work less now and I am more available for my family. However, the loyalty I felt in PA is nonexistent in industry. Overall, I do think it was the right choice for my family. Write out a pro/con list and focus on what your priorities are.

Many industry jobs have much more rigid hours and a lot less flexibility. Stay in PA as long as you can.
I would stay in public until I have the baby. I had my first baby while at PwC and the second after I moved to industry. The maternity leave at PwC was a lot better, although raising my kids and work-life balance was a lot easier after I moved to industry.
