The straps are there to keep him in there. It’s good training to get him ready for a life of coach travel on airplanes.
Age?
We returned the car seat and got a different one; it seemed to make all the difference. We ended up with a Graco 4Ever which has worked well.
Yes, distraction always works. I used to give her a video or some toy etc.. did you try that?
3 months
SC1 what was the main difference between the two? He seemed to like it but when we had to take out the newborn insert he started HATING it
Given how long they're going to be in there I'd try to add cushioning or switch it out for something else
Ours cried her lungs out every single time when put into the car seat. It only got better now that she is older and we switched to get the next bigger car seat. We don’t own a car (live in Europe), and limited our taxi and rental car usage to the absolute minimum necessary. We use public transport to go pretty much everywhere, much easier with a toddler compared to driving especially when when traveling alone with the child. I guess that’s more difficult in the US though; I used to live there and realized it’s difficult to get around without a car...
I’ve tried adding extra blankets to the sides to help add some padding and make it a bit more cushy but he just screams his lungs out
If he doesn't like it anywhere, there may be something uncomfortable. I'd check all the straps again and see if something is digging in somewhere.
Assuming you've done all that, distractions are key. Our daughter stopped liking the car seat at one point randomly too. We just started distracting her until she started to see that the car meant we were going somewhere really fun.
Recommend Fischer Price roar n ride lion. We used it at home at her changing table at one point too when she got super fidgety. Or, even though we're personally in the "no TV for babies" camp, we turned on little baby bums on Netflix in the car and hung it on the back seat. The songs kept her attention, and they were temporary. Now she's fine without all the distractions.
Also are you in the back seat with him? My daughter is really attached and did not like me being that close and not hugging her..
And remember, this too shall pass :)
Also just realized this was the dad bowl.. Clearly lurking mom that forgot I was in this one.. So the question is: is your wife back there with him? My daughter is fine with my husband sitting back there. Just doesn't like me being the one not hugging her.. Rascal.
They sell activity stations that attach to the seat back that they're facing. They have mirror, music, things to grab and kick, etc. A bit of distraction might help?
We typically are back there with him. First time yesterday I had to drive him solo, but he typically yells regardless
Y’all are crazy. As with anything with kids, change is hard. But sitting in the backseat, just like laying on their bedroom floor when bedtime training a toddler, just prolongs the inevitable. Make sure there isnt something poking him, bite the bullet, deal with the screaming.
I agree with figuring the comfort thing out. Go to Babies R Us and sit him in a few. Figure out of he likes any of them. You may have to buy a new one, or must move to a convertible seat now.
