Dear Fishes, I am in a conundrum currently. I have two offers. One from Deloitte USI (17.5 LPA fixed, 1.75 LPA variable and 1.5 L joining bonus). The other is from Infosys (25 LPA CTC. Permanent WFH. Negotiation is still on for this.)
Could you please be so kind as to help me decide which one to choose?
Thanks in advance,
Fellow Perplexed Fish.
Warm Cinnamon Rolls to start the day.

Rather he says that instead of “I”,
When I’m on a team I almost always say “we”( even as the person who may have thought of it
I have had a fantastic manager who always gives credit to minions, and would say 'Abc came up with this fantastic idea and I would let her present this'.
And everytime partner asks about the new idea in detail, he would have nothing to say and I would have to jump in. Feel like I am not learning anything out of this except for 'managing up'.
Maybe next time trying saying: “yeah, I actually brought this up with Manager this morning and we discussed it. We think blah....” that way you take ownership and then show a collaborative spirit? Try it and see how it’s received next time.
Omg. Same. My Manager didn’t dial into a meeting and asked me what went on. And then rallied that information onto the partner. Who goes like “I didn’t know you were on that call. I thought you were on PTO” and then my manager says “work never stops.” All of this in front of me 👀
Sounds good 🙂
Fake it til you make it
Perhaps the manager is doing other things? Are you over rotating on this aspect? In the day-to-day I think this happens often. Ultimately the “work” is not done by any one person but the team as a unit.
I cover multiple pieces of work so rely on my team for detail. It is not ok to take credit where it is not due, but sometimes I have asked my team to explain something to senior stakeholders and they fail at communicating to senior people. Too much detail and not enough understanding of the core problem the client cares most about that week.
So I, whilst always clearly saying how amazing my team are, have at times been the main person distilling down the content for a very senior audience.
Sounds your manager sucks, though, but even ‘nice’ managers may present your work for you in certain contexts.
Thank you for speaking from a manager's perspective! Yes, i totally agree with you that manager need to integrate all the works etc, and tell a story when needed. I am okay with that. The thing that bothers me is presenting my ideas in brainstorm sessions.
You can get pretty far in our firms by taking other people's work. It sucks but it's the game we choose to play.
Is the Manager close enough to the work to have ideas for it? Perhaps they reach out to you because you're closer to it?
Not really. We are handling the same workstream.
Mannnn I know some managers suck but their job is so hard. I have so much respect for them.... Have you tried managing partners / principals? It’s like herding cats lol. Give the manager some slack but don’t hesitate to talk to them about how you’re feeling! They may not even realize what they are doing!
