I’m job hunting in Los Angeles, looking at a variety of titles (HRBP, Sr. HRBP, Manager, Sr. Manager, Director). I have 8 YOE and my SHRM-SCP. I reached my report limit on payscale.com, so I used a variety of other sites to price the roles (BLS, salary.com, Glassdoor, LinkedIn, Robert Half). Be different than the rest of the companies and do more than 16 weeks. I received 16 weeks but through NYPL I was able to extend my time off to be a full 6 months off (where the last month was unfortunately unpaid but I anticipated this). At this point I still feel that's not enough time off. Be the difference and provide a leave of 6 months minimum fully paid for both genders ( I understand the States cannot compete with other countries although I wish we could). I guarantee you employees will be thankful and want to stay with you. Also if possible offer a one time bonus for new parents. We do 16 weeks regardless of gender (but should mention we are also a german based company so we keep those standards in the US)
We give up to 12 weeks of parental leave that must be taken within a year of the birth or adoption. That does not include the disability time for the actual birth of the baby. A mother can be paid for disability (6 weeks for vaginal delivery/8 weeks for a cesarean delivery) given no additional complications and then receive 12 weeks FMLA. My company also provides a phase in period for 1 month upon return from leave. We are entitled to an 80% work schedule to adjust to working again.

My previous company was 16 weeks for both birthing and non-birthing parents. Didn’t have to be taken all at once.
I've advised startups to do no less than 12 weeks. Most talented folks are just as equally invested in progressive benefits package as they are total comp
I think 12-14 weeks is the standard these days.
