Need to write a paid parental leave policy for a company, how much are most start ups giving these days? Thinking 12 weeks but want to know what others are doing within the tech industry.

Be different than the rest of the companies and do more than 16 weeks. I received 16 weeks but through NYPL I was able to extend my time off to be a full 6 months off (where the last month was unfortunately unpaid but I anticipated this). At this point I still feel that's not enough time off. Be the difference and provide a leave of 6 months minimum fully paid for both genders ( I understand the States cannot compete with other countries although I wish we could). I guarantee you employees will be thankful and want to stay with you. Also if possible offer a one time bonus for new parents. I've seen this offered at other companies and I wish my company did this as well

We do 16 weeks regardless of gender (but should mention we are also a german based company so we keep those standards in the US)

We give up to 12 weeks of parental leave that must be taken within a year of the birth or adoption. That does not include the disability time for the actual birth of the baby. A mother can be paid for disability (6 weeks for vaginal delivery/8 weeks for a cesarean delivery) given no additional complications and then receive 12 weeks FMLA. My company also provides a phase in period for 1 month upon return from leave. We are entitled to an 80% work schedule to adjust to working again.

Same

My previous company was 16 weeks for both birthing and non-birthing parents. Didn’t have to be taken all at once.

I've advised startups to do no less than 12 weeks. Most talented folks are just as equally invested in progressive benefits package as they are total comp

I think 12-14 weeks is the standard these days.

Friend: Instead of IVF, you should try freezing them.
Me: Freezing them?
F: The eggs. It works.
M: That’s part of the IVF process. Optional, but still IVF.
F: No, my other friend did the freezing instead. It worked really well. She’s already pregnant. Just sayin.
M: ...
F: It’s an option for you to think about.

Not be archaic by using this terminology but I’m a female “breadwinner” and my company was acquired recently and the new health insurance benefit is them paying basically none of the insurance for my spouse and child. Is this the new norm? If so I need a much higher paying job to have the take-home I need.

When was the last time you did something just for yourself? And what was it? We few friends from school met online after a long time. All of us looked well, tired and we all realized we have been so busy looking out for our family and kids and we forgot to prioritize ourselves. This was a group of friends across the globe, so seems like a global problem… It can be simple as working out alone or fancy as going for staycation at airbnb solo (I am not eligible for this since kid refuses to wean!)

A father showed up to drop off kid while the mom was busy elsewhere, instead of going about his plans he stayed with us. I felt so much sexual tension with him there its so weird. I was attracted to something about him and i know i had his attention. I could barely look him in the eyes when he would make conversation. I wanted to… you know what. SO WEIRD. Hes not even a 10! Im so confused.

Weaning baby now (he is four months). I have a big freezer stash and it’s in the deep freeze so it will be good until next December. Is the better strategy to constantly give baby some breastmilk every day until I run out (like 8-10 ounces a day or something, mixed with his formula) or is it better to just give formula and save the freezer stash for if/when he gets a cold or something, and then mix it in liberally only then)?

I’m interested in getting a certificate in HR rather than going the SHRM or HRCI route. Do you believe that Certificates in HR are recognized just the same way as HR certifications?
