One of the partners at my firm scares me and makes me feel sick and dread when we have to meet. They never give me positive feedback and nit pick the smallest mistakes and because of my anxiety I feel like I am more prone to mess up because I am so scared. Most of my friends would describe as more confident than the average person so this behavior is unlike me and does not come up in other parts of my life. I don’t know what to do, I can’t avoid working with them, my group is too small.

Already spoke with a partner who wanted something done this morning for him to review and then we discuss again. Sent it to him about 4 hours ago. Should take him half an hour to review max. At what point can I check in with him to see when we can catch up so I’m not waiting in the office all day?

Does anyone else feel like having kids is the only acceptable reason to not be in the office 24/7? If I choose not to have children, do I not have any valid reason to have a life outside work?

Comforting others:
When someone tells me bad news regarding their health, I say everything I am supposed to say (I’m sorry to hear that, I’m here for you, etc) EXCEPT “everything is going to be ok”. Because I can’t guarantee that and I really don’t know if everything is going to be ok. I was taken aback recently when a friend told me I am calloused and cold-hearted for not being able to say those words. Is she right? Should I start saying this for the purposes of providing comfort only??

Do you ever feel like there are rooms you’re locked out of? I’m a black woman, i lateraled to my group a few months ago with minimal onboarding and welcome.
