If your goal is to clear $1M and are confident that you have what it takes to make partner, consulting is probably the lowest risk path toward making that kind of money. I don’t know exactly how long it would take at Deloitte specifically since different firms are different (I’m not at a B4), but I’d expect that pretty much all of the capable equity partners at Deloitte get there eventually - and not just like 15 years in.
In tech, you probably need a few things to break your way to get there, so likelihood of hitting that threshold is lower. On the other side, the upside potential could be a lot higher if you land in the right tech company at the right time. Almost nobody in consulting is making $5M+ while plenty of people in tech find themselves with equity that suddenly becomes extremely valuable.
I stayed in consulting because the allure of potentially making wild sums of money wasn’t as appealing to me as staying a course that pretty much guaranteed me a 7-figure paycheck. There’s pretty much nothing I want to do that isn’t covered by my current income, so it feels like a good choice.
The partnership is becoming more diluted and diluted. The starting salary keeps going down.
There is no one number for first year Partner. It depends on which SL/ SSL you are in. Base can range from 350 - 600K
Salesforce. Opens up a lot of opportunities for you down the road. Sr Director at 32 is solid. You should be able to jump into a VP position elsewhere and move up. $1M def achievable.
I moved to tech a few years back. Commonly see people from Salesforce move around between different tech companies. Should be a lot of options.
Take the Salesforce position. It’s a company that is WINNING so your comp and role can only grow there. At Deloitte you will sacrifice your work life balance completely only to get closer to a promise of Partner/MD. Forget the Big 4 and go with a real technology company! The tech companies are worth it wayyyy more to build real innovation and not chase mere services revenue like you will at a services firm like Deloitte, and you won’t be frustrated busting your gut trying to get the brass ring.

Would it not be inaccurate to compare Salesforce to Big4 partner pay like to like? I would assume the partners pay at least 5% to 7% more in taxes due to pass through structure and multiple state tax. Also the SF stock options tax would be deferred.
Why would the tax be deferred on RSU ? Certain percentage is automatically withheld to pay taxes upon vest.
Is this Senior Director role in Success and in a LCOL area? Seems pretty low in TC.

Worth considering what comes after senior director at SF, I know at some tech companies the VP role comes next, where you can be looking at $400-700 TC, maybe more, depending on firm. Also attainable within 5 years.
Lots of assumptions lol, but if true, it can be comparable to what a partner makes, slightly less than your target, but I guess arguably less risk, and better wlb to raise a family...
Salesforce titles are inflated. VP at salesforce is max principle at FANG, two level below VP
Don’t make your decision on WLB if you don’t need it now. With your profile, you can work it out when you need it. Go where you will get next promotion earliest
