It means you are in a toxic workplace. I would skip HR and look for a different job very quietly. When people show you who they are - believe them. Going to HR is only going to put a target on your back and make your time there even more unpleasant.
Honey, Mind the business that pays you and that’s your job. This doesn’t actually fit the “see something, say something criteria. Until you become a target personally, it’s just not your business. And if it get so bad that now managers are involved and HR is involved and that leads to them interviewing the entire team, then you can add what you’ve witnessed (if you want) but if this was me, I mind my business. How is your productivity? Focus on you and your job.
Why do you care if it’s an issue for HR? If they’re actively trying to attack someone’s character that’s endangering YOU. You need to tell HR abkut this situation calmly with explicit details so at least someone else is aware of what’s happening
What I meant when I asked is this for HR, was is this an issue to report to HR especially when they start to lie on me too? In other words, this wouldn’t be something that you just ignore, correct?
The last department I worked in, I witnessed quite a few contact HR for obvious mistreatment then get bullied or fired eventually, so I was making sure this was serious enough to report.
Just make sure you have enough money saved if you’re going to HR & start applying elsewhere. If the person is a manager or a manager’s fave then you could be risking losing your job. The fact that they have gotten away with gossiping shows she might be protected or maybe people are scared to report her. But they are threatening your job so you must do something. Just have proof. Maybe the first just tell HR you don’t to want mention names, so then HR will respond with a training or an announcement.
Sadly HR will favor managers, managers favorites, & people who have been there long. If they are maligning people’s character without fear, then that might be your cue to find a new role. People talk, but to do it openly is a red flag.
