If you like sunny weather and expensive houses move to San Diego, if you like anti-depressants and rain move to Seattle.

I just saw an article saying that San Diego has the fastest falling housing prices right now 🤷🏻♀️ I mean it's still incredibly expensive but I have heard it's a lot more expensive to live in Seattle.
Born and raised in Texas. Never been to Seattle. I love it out here in SD. If you enjoy the summer weather, SD is your best choice. Our “heat waves” are regular Texas summers. I’ve acclimated, obviously, and I die when it hits the 80s every time.
I've only been to Seattle once and that was enough for me. I will never live there....too much rain and not enough sunshine.
Good to hear I’m not the only one moving from Texas to the West Coast! I’m born and raised in Texas and 2 months ago my girlfriend and I moved from Austin Tx to SD. It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made. It’s hard to beat the lifestyle here considering the weather is beautiful year round and the people are for the most part happy, friendly and welcoming. A 6 minute walk to the beach is a dream.
Cost of living is more expensive but if you get a salary adjustment, it about evens it out.
Coming from texas as well I heard a lot about the people in California “not being friendly” or that “everyone is moving here to texas why would you move there”. But, when I got to San Diego, I was pleasantly surprised. Vast majority of people here are friendly and happy. Very welcoming community.
From Texas, lived in both. Both places have high real estate costs. I feel SD has a lot more potential with Sorrento Valley emerging as SoCal’s tech hub.
Seattle: Hated weather/rain. Liked the pace in the boonies, more “nature” life, salmon fishing.
SD: Wins any day of the week. Weather. Beach. Weather. Sand, snow (seasonal), wineries.
I live in San Diego— moved from texas two years ago. And I do love Seattle. But the upside to SD weather is hard to quantify. You step out everyday and it’s amazing. You get to the point where one day or rain or one day of 93 heat is unbearable. Over time this has positive upticks for general happiness and well-being. Plus SD has some of the best beaches in the US. What do I love about Seattle is the access to wilderness/ woods. I love the outdoors and the northern cascades are beautiful. Also Seattle feels like more of a hub. Despite San Diego feeling massive, it will always be the little bro of LA. You can see this when it comes to sports teams and events. San Diego is a tad more expensive but either city is HCL
We moved to SD 3 years ago from VT and don’t regret it for a second. There is so much to do outside for free, so many cultural opportunities and if you like 74 degrees sunshine and no humidity for the majority of the year then this is the place. We are renting. I wish we had bought right when we got here because the prices went through the roof, but they are starting to come back down a bit. I will be retiring in about 10 years so we may not buy. We will probably move to a less expensive state when the time comes. I find groceries to be cheaper here than Vermont. Even though other things are more expensive my salary here is higher and so we actually have more discretionary income.
I was in this same predicament last year and chose San Diego, I’m so glad I did! Everyday is sunny and beautiful whereas in Seattle it rains everyday for weeks/months on end. That was a huge factor for me. I will say the culture and food in Seattle is a bit better, it just has a lot more character all around and the people are more interesting. But weather has a huge impact on my mental health personally so SD was a good choice for me. It’s also a very dog friendly city, so I was able to adopt my first dog!
San Diego for sure. I loved in Seattle for a couple years and I literally hated the weather and the rain. It was so depressing living there to be honest with you.
I hated Seattle to be honest. I would much prefer San Diego.
