Here is the short answer. Don’t take the sketchy situation — OR “wait it out”. Neither will work. Be proactive, even if it takes a lot of energy, and seek out a position with legitimate growth potential. It’s all about growth.
If the client’s business is not growing, if the account is not growing for the agency, if the agency is stagnant & not growing, if your role is not growing, it’s time to look for situations where growth is happening.
If you are not in situations that are growing (and have the prospect of sustaining the growth), it’s almost impossible for you to have momentum.
Now, this DOES NOT mean playing hop scotch every 24 months just to get a $10,000 raise. You have to be smart and look for ideas whose time has come. If you were with Apple & Netflix over the past 30 years, you have had a different experience than had you been with IBM & NBC.
