That's definitely tough. Nothing shakes your confidence like long-tenured members who doubt you for sure. The best approach I’ve found is to focus on earning trust through small wins and listening more than pushing at first. Over time, consistent leadership can change opinions, even if it takes patience.
So hard to stomach. Remember that the hiring managers selected YOU for a specific reason so you DO have skills that merit this role. It may not be what the rest of the team knows or is familiar with. Hopefully you can win them over eventually with your other areas of knowledge. Until then, I think itd be helpful to make alliances, get to know the junior team members, get supervisors/those over you to also coach and champion you. Good luck and keep your head up. This is what differentiates leaders from the rest- your resilience 💪
That’s all noise, stop listening and show your skill.
Funny that a post like this comes up now! My new manager used to be a big fish in a small pond. Now it’s the complete opposite! He wants to do the right thing, but is completely clueless on how this company works. All he does is delegate his manager tasks to his subordinates, while we already have too much on our plate already. He’ll probably be gone in 6 months. I’m looking to exit as well! This company is a cluster and is just a revolving door. I’m hoping to exit on my own terms and not get PIPped out.
Take the time to listen to your team, learn what they do and focus on understanding they day do it like that today vs you questioning why it’s done that way. Ask them do they see any pain points that could lead to process improvement
Always tough joining a new role with seniority for the first time, just trust your skills and stay organized. It’s everyone’s first time at some point…
