I’ve worked at AT&T as a sales consultant for 6 years and 8 months where we prospect, uncover, and close on leads. I’ve used Salesforce for the past 4 years during my tenure. I’ve done B2B sales where I’ve received awards for it for 2 years consecutively. Loads of troubleshooting, uncovering needs through consultative styled selling, and tech app subscriptions.
I was wondering if I have the necessary skills to transition into a tech sales role. If so, what would be the best role/fit for me?Amazon Salesforce Google @

Writing tests are for people that can't evaluate portfolios and people that don't have portfolios. Neither of those people belong in an agency.

you’ll get pushback for:
1) would could be perceived as free work
2) asking to present potentially confidential work
3) “homework” outside the interview process.
IMO, 1 and 2 are valid.
3) is mixed - you want to see how qualified a candidate is. I prefer [instead] to incorporate it into the interview.
If you would like give them a trial, consider offering the job as a freelance position first and let them know it could lead to a full time offer after a few months.
Yes. Often our MO.
I've seen agencies do test briefs for juniors and interns (sometimes made up/sometimes live) for little to no money.
Once they get to mid/senior level, you'd hope they wouldn't need a test brief, but if they do it's definitely a live brief and paid at proper freelance rates.
Totally. Should've clarified - jr. talent. Straight out of school / or industry shift.

I did a test for my last gig. I wanted it so badly that I just did it - but I did notice that it was a real, but older brief from an actual client (I got the same one at the company before that one too lol). So I knew it wasn’t relevant for them to use, but I just ended up reusing a lot of the ideas I answered the brief previously for the test 😂

I hate them overall, but you can almost justify it at small in-house places, because maybe they’re not well-versed in evaluating creatives. And I mean small in-house...not like Apple with a fully staffed creative team.
But any place that calls itself an agency - with CDs, etc, should be able to look at a book and know whether or not a candidate is worth meeting.
Roger that. New talent = lots of spec.
You should be able to tell from the writer’s portfolio whether they can write or not. If that’s not possible, it’s good to pay for the work. (If you were looking for a new dentist, you wouldn’t ask them for a free cleaning, would you?)

Which have worked in similar categories or has the voice you’re looking for? Next step is team fit and narrow down from there.

Not kosher unless paid for their time. Most view it as a way to gain free IP. Use their portfolio as a copy test.
It’s bad karma to do that.
