The crazy part about RTO and not hiring remote is that we’ve had people leave in droves and instead of hiring better talent remotely my company has decided to just hire from within or only hire talent where they have an office which has made it extremely difficult to find anyone. Anybody else experiencing the same? I have a few colleagues that would be able to come in and be self-sufficient but because he’s nowhere near an office, we can’t hire them…

This is stupid, so some companies will never find the right talent, while others understood the game years ago. One of the largest Engineering consulting firms in the US took that path. One of the patterns told me, "We learned about that during COVID, and today, we can hire the right people regardless of where they live, the best talent." Europe is decades ahead of the US in terms of this.

I've noticed some of the companies will hire the same employees as contractors. They will do the same work as before, but get paid as contingent workers.

As someone operating a platinum rated facility in the northeast with no return to work order, it's one of the dumbest decisions not to. Gold and platinum buildings don't produce heat and just use chilled water loops to balance out heat load. The fewer people in the building, the colder and colder it gets.

Yeah, increased building maintenance isn’t a reason to force people to go to a place. Perhaps those companies could simply stop leasing the office space rather then forcibly return to work so the toilets can be flushed the correct number of times per month.

I am in a tech IC position. One of friends switched to FAANG by converting the profile to consultant profile. The friend who might have less tech knowledge than me is now in FAANG and earning more. If the end goal would be that the friend might one day be a product manager and me an engineering manager taking instructions from the same friend, isn't consultant profile an easier path to growth. I had been practising DSA for years and the competition is only ever growing.

I recommended a candidate for hire to a manager that reports directly to me. This person is a perfect match, but wanted the manager to obviously recommend. It has to be a fit. The manager just told me my recommendation is not her top pick. I feel frustrated because as much as we talk about the position, I wonder if we are mot aligned on criteria. What do I do? Do I push more for the person I want or will I cause an issue with the hiring manager? How do I get her to see this person’s value?

I'm entering my final year of law school but am going part time since I work full time as a paralegal. I have been a paralegal for more 10+ years and I want to open my own firm after I pass the bar.

I've worked at a lot of different size firms including a startup with a few attorneys and I was able to help with a lot of the ground work with getting the practice management system in place and still do some of that now at my current firm. Has anyone done this right out of law school? Any advice?

I know I will get hated by saying this. Do you think gay pride events are portraying a bad image about our community to public? (Drugs, sexual, inappropriate clothes, and sometimes like strip clubs- some parts). I know it is right to present us but I just feel it is not the right way to show who we are. I wish the pride where everybody can connect in a more friendly way (outdoor game- team work, dance, drink something not too sexual.) there are some good parts of pride tho. Any opinions?

There’s now a lawsuit in Texas challenging PREP. How much longer do y’all plan to live in the US? This is actually how I predicted this would unfold. That folks with moral objections would file a lawsuit like this, and then get it up to The Church for review, and then overturn Lawrence v Texas. This is just happening a lot faster than I thought.

What is revenge Job Hopping?

It is a phenomenon observed when a candidate frequently jumps job in order to have a market correction to his salary.
Say person A got settled in his job for 5 years and his current salary is 7lpa..He joined at 4 lpa.
Now for his experience, he can be paid upto 30 lpa for the role.
So after switching for 13 lpa.. He keeps job hopping from 13-19 and 19-28 within a year where he finally feels he is paid adequately.
