Things I should be thinking about or advocating for myself for when my direct report goes out on parental leave in a couple months?

I’ve been assigned some of their duties to cover while they are out. That work might take up 25% of my work week. My first time covering another employee on leave. TIA.

While they are on leave advocate for giving yourself more time; whether that’s a longer deadline, fewer meetings if possible, and fewer distractions if possible.

I’d also suggest making sure that you and the person going on leaving have more than one knowledge transfer meeting (I usually suggest 3 to 5 depending on their workload) and preferably have it documented somewhere. Also if your team/company doesn’t have a password sharing tool make sure any logins are in the doc; as well as meetings regarding anything you’re covering or projects you’re working on that you may not already be attending. And lastly; If they have responsibilities you’ve never handled while you’ve been at that company or ones you might not be super familiar with ask that person to make tangos for those so you have a reference for the process (if not already written down).

Thank you! This is helpful to know I was heading in the right direction. 3-5 knlowdge transfer meetings makes sense and I hadn’t anticipated needing that but I can see it makes sense. Much appreciated!!!

That extra work might be reflected in a bonus at the end of the year! Also, make everyone aware of your workload, so they work with you too.

Over-communicate. Make sure other people (especially those in other departments who may not realize your manager is out on leave) understand the situation and that you're juggling two jobs at once. This should help give you a little breathing room and help you prioritize your workload so you're not completely overwhelmed trying to meet 20 different deadlines.

Anyone have advice for advancing in your current role? My co-worker was hired in at manager level but somehow “proved” he was actually doing director level work and got a title promotion and salary increase in less than a year. I also went above and beyond my job as well (covering for him for a month while he was away on paternity leave) while taking on other projects outside of my job title and got zip—no raise or recognition. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hey guys… I’m a case worker in child safety and I’m someone who loves being outdoors/dies at a desk all day. I’m hoping to organise that at least once a week I can go to a cafe and catch up on all my case notes that need to go into the system.
So far the only reason I’ve been told no is that “if you do then everyone will want to and then no one will be in the office” … how can I convince them that I work better out of the office and get this freedom & mental break for myself?

Hi all! I was asked coordinate a local happy hour for my team. The issue I’m having is that I’m currently pregnant and am not sure if I’m comfortable to hang out with strangers. What’s the most professional way to say no without hurting feelings / burning bridges? Or should I suck it up and go?

I'm done with this app. People are talking about that parents don't have the right to know if their kid wants to be called by a different pronoun and keeping things from parents. Makes me sick. I told them they're all fucked in the head. So I'll be booted soon. Good knowing some of you. Peace.

What would happen if I left my current company, started at a new one, and got pregnant before 12 months of service with the new company? For reference, I know new company requires 12 months for FMLA, and STD is 3 months.

If I’m not eligible for FMLA, what would that leave situation look like? Not currently pregnant but husband and I are wanting to start trying soon, just don’t want to be in a situation where I can’t take maternity leave. TIA!

I have 1 one year old and have told my husband that I want to get divorced. He is being immature about the process and is just trying to make everything difficult. Sometimes he says he will move out, then he says the baby and I should, sometimes he says he wants custody when the real reason im leaving is his lack of interest amd resppnsibility toward our family. I can tell he is hurt and is upset that i dont love him anymore and want to get everything ready to make the exit easy. How do I start?

We want to start trying for a baby in the next few months but I also am looking for a new job. I know that FMLA eligibility requires you to have worked at least a year at your current job. I’m wondering if I should hold off switching jobs to stay eligible at my current position or just switch jobs and still have a baby at the new place but not be eligible for FMLA. Need advice.

1. Which one will have growth CDM or PV?
2. Does they consider earlier experience because she had a gap.?

Hi guys! Had a call with a recruiter and they asked for my email to send me the link to apply. Haven’t heard since the initial call, thinking I might have failed the screening call. Would that deter you from applying online? For context, recruiter reached out first and the company was not on my radar before. After some research I got interested, but haven’t articulated that clearly enough on my call (didn’t expect I was going to be asked questions and thought I would just hear about openings).

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. They suggested that we put SPHR ( Lapsed). I let it lapse in 2017. What is your opinion? Plus if I were to take another certification - should I take SPHR or SHRM-SCP?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working as a contract TAS for 6 months in a medical device company. I started part time and as it became busier/my trainer quit, I became full-time. I applied for the TA position through corporate and would like some insight. the company is short staffed and my site specifically does not have good TA retention. For the salary expectation, I put in 85k which is in the range. I’m currently at 64k which is below the minimum of the range. Is this realistic?
