I recently got a night shift project (2 days ago) that requires me to work from 10:30pm till 7:30am
I'm not comfortable with these timings and I'm thinking to ask my manager to put me on Bench (Due to medical reasons that involve mental health)
Is it a nice idea to say a firm No to a new project I'm hardlocked into, due to night shifts?

Hmmm….just take a sick day if you’re sick. It’s just work.
I don’t get the point of this post. So you go to the office, and don’t go in when you’re sick. Congrats on not spreading your germs around?
While I can understand the perspective, I think it's important to remember that sick days and time off are not just for physical health issues but also for mental health and wellness.
I think it's great that you've found a system that works for you, but it may not be feasible or desirable for everyone. Some people may have health or personal reasons for needing to work from home more often, and it's important to respect that.

To clarify by sick I’m including mental health within this. For example if the thought of the 5/6am journey fills you with panic and dread one day you can take it easy on yourself and wfh
Or you could just take a sick day when you’re sick. What are you saving your sick days for? It’s not a 401k that you have to wait for retirement to use. We need to stop with this toxic work culture. You don’t have to be on your deathbed to take a sick day, geesh
And people with “unskilled” jobs who make $20k a year power through their sick days too, so that means nothing. No matter how “high up” or “low level” your role is, sick is sick and you will be laid off whether the corporation needs to save 20k or 200k just the same.
I mean, even pre covid I worked from home if I was sick, if I felt up to working at all. That should always be the case. Nobody wants your germs. But, yes, by all means use the flexibility however it makes sense for you.
As someone who values flexibility, I think it's important to remember that it goes both ways. While it's great to work from home when we need to, we also need to be willing to come into the office and be present when necessary.
As long as it's actually "necessary" and not just preferred by the one extrovert who really wants to see coworkers and is trying to make everyone gather, when it could've been done just fine or better remotely.
I think it is important to know that it is a system that works for you and might not be preferred by others. Personally, I'm not a fan when people try to force a method to show power without any data to back the decision.
Found the fed, guys.
I kid, I kid. Whatever works for you!
