People who stay at the equinox hotel have access to the pool…

You’d be surprised to know hotel guests have to join a wait list for chairs as members also do. Sometimes the wait is 6 hrs long. Unless you get there first thing in the am when the sun doesn’t even hit the pool.
Trust fund still works, just depends on how big your trust is, and whether you are interested in meeting others. For some, it is an opportunity.
As for others, owning real estate can be one. When I go to Equinox - not the level that has access to their top-tier - and I go in the afternoon, I assume owners of some kind, with some freedom to be away from a desk.
You should try it sometimes if the workload is light. I take days off to go to the beach at Brighton.

I go there all the time during the middle of the week. I'm a corporate lawyer. Grew up dirt-floor poor, so no trust fund or family support.

I almost went today. People are working remote from the pool, you often see many laptops. The sunchairs have a 2 hr limit when it’s busy, which is most of the time.

The chairs are not that close to the pool to drop it in. People usually sit around the pool edge, and also lay towels on the cement.

but lower level folks may go for cheaper options that might be close to free w/ discount

Definitely not upper management. They are in meetings all day, every day. I have seen the calendars of some of those guys, usually 8am-6pm back-to-back meetings, often not even a lunch break. ICs in tech definitely have the most schedule flexibility in my experience.
