I am looking for two new teachers (0-5 years) who would be interested in participating in a study I am doing as a Doctoral Candidate at Baylor. The study looks to understand the experiences women working in the field of education have had that triggered shame and explore their resilience. If you are interested, click the link below to get started: bit.ly/ShameResilienceStudy

They are kids. Let them enjoy their break. You must be a treat at parties.
Whatever spin you want to put on it isn’t going to work. They call it a break for a reason.
If you're not working over the holiday break, they shouldn't be either.
Let them enjoy the mental relaxation that comes with a few responsibility-free days. They'll be better for it in January.
I’m not on a “side.” I am choosing not to assign anything this year. My kids are pretty stressed and I think they need the break. In years past, however, I’ve assigned a fun novel to read.
I am nowhere near the “no homework side” of “this generation.” I typically assign work 2-5 nights a week and all reading is homework outside of a short play we read in class.
Still, homework or any over break is a bit much, and I am a huge proponent of homework.
Visual Storyteller
The homework I gave my students was to get extra sleep, enjoy your time off with friends and family, and to talk to the oldest members of your family. Ask them for stories of their childhood, their parents and their childhood, and their grandparents, etc. to learn what they can about their family history and their immigration story, as much as they can, to get the stories before they are lost. I told them that my dad interviewed his grandmother when I was a baby, her father fought in the Civil War, and in the Battle of Gettysburg.
No actual assignment. It goes with the novel we are reading, The Joy Luck Club.
No homework for me. Let the kiddos enjoy their tike off with their 👪.
Mentor
Many of my students are working a lot of hours at jobs over break. Some are watching younger siblings while parents work. There are others trying to get through stained family dynamics or other situations.
I am not going to leverage two weeks of non-institutional time to make some sort of blow for the culture wars.
Students will not be required to do anything. They will be encouraged to prep for finals coming at the end of January if that appeals.
Break is a break.
We have semester classes, so nothing over the break, but I don’t assign homework at all during the year. When my kids and grandkids are home, I want to spend time with them, and homework gets in the way of that, so I learned from that to allow my school kids to have family/free time when they are home.
Nothing.
